Good morning everyone how was your weekend?

Nov 8, 2021, 7:54 AM

Friday night, calm night with a trip to Lowe's and some easy dinner.

Saturday, a bunch of nothing then the game. Games are what they are this year.

Sunday, started building a cart for my scrap wood, Got pretty far, then I had to cut a 65 degree angle. Getting too dark for the circular saw so stopped for the night.

Good

Nov 8, 2021, 7:58 AM

Fri - left work at noon, put yak in the river and only got 1 fish. Dinner and a movie

Sat - on Lake Russell before sunrise. My buddy and I caught 48 bass. Stayed home the rest of the day

Sun - Church in the morning, had friends over and played outside with kids, finished YOU Season 3 last night with final 3 episodes.

What a weekend!

Nov 8, 2021, 8:02 AM

Movers sent things to storage that should have been to new place, and things to new place that should have been in storage… Unpacking and repacking. I have moved many times in my 40 years of marriage but this one was the most disorganized I have ever had. It is also the first time I have ever used a moving company.

FIVE calls to new cable provider before someone finally knew their job and was able to get my internet access activated. One call operator placed me on hold for 10 minutes and then informed me she was trying to find an answer to my question. 10 more minutes on hold and my call suddenly ended. Not impressed with COX cable at all.

BUT, No rain. Sun shining with a cool breeze. Saturday Morning was 46 degrees. AweSome Weather this past weekend and continues today.

Closing today on house we [sold]. A few dollars finally being made on real estate.
I think this is going to be Good!

The weather sucked but Clemson won

Nov 8, 2021, 8:09 AM

Took it pretty easy with family, friends, beer, and football.

Neighborhood buddy invited me to his dad's house to drink bourbon and scotch and smoke cigars with a bunch of old men Friday night, so that was kinda cool.

Yeah I tend to stick with mild to medium these days too. I do like a little pepper or spiciness to my smoke.

Wednesday: Left Gangland around 6:15 and drove down to Charleston to house/dog sit daughter of and SIL of.

Thursday: house/dog sat. Dinner at Toasts. 2 thumbs down.

Friday: house/dog sat. Dinner at Caroline's Aloha Bar. The food was OK but the atmosphere and service were fabulous.

Saturday: lunch at Charleston Sports Pub. Food, beer and service were great. Watched the 12:00 games and then left to watch the rest of the days games at daughter and SIL's house. Drank a few more cold ones and snacked the rest of the day. Pulled our Tigers thru and stayed up way to late for an old man watching west coast games.

Sunday: lunch at Boxcar Betty's. Food was amazing. Left Charleston around 6:30 heading back to Gangland. Watched Sunday night football.

11/10: got to see daughter and SIL. Ate too much good food.

Not too shabby.

Nov 8, 2021, 8:12 AM

Friday: Don't remember much. Worked later than I like. Grabbed a drink with co-workers afterwards. Stayed in. Ate leftovers. B-.

Saturday: Up fairly early with a sick baby. Took him to the doctor, which scuttled most of my Saturday plans. Watched some football, but not a ton. Wife worked. Grocery run. Dinner was homemade baked ziti and focaccia. 10/10 meal. I don't have ACC Network so I went to bed decently early. C.

Sunday: Sonof actually slept in, which was great. Skipped church since he had a fever in the previous 24 hours. Spent the day tending a chuck roast I was smoking. Took sonof for a walk and to the park/playground. Got ice cream. Worked in the garden and the yard a bit. Took the chuck roast off the smoker and braised it. Had some good friends over for dinner and hung out with them. We made tacos with the roast. Rice & beans for a side. Homemade lemon pie for dessert. A-.

Overall: fantastic, chilly fall weather. Good food. Good times with friends and family. B overall, with main deduction for a sick kid and altered Saturday plans.

Forgot to mention I watched the full game replay on YouTube on Sunday. I had seen the score and a lot of headlines saying it was DJ's best game this year. That might be so, but its not saying much. I actually thought he looked awful. But the WRs played much better and I thought it was Tony Elliot's best called game of the year.

Did some online Christmas shopping. Corrected a report for work. Went under the house and repaired fallen insulation, and sprayed for bugs. Trimmed hedges and blew driveway. Cooked some burgers on the grill. Watched Clemson not lose. Went to grocery store, laundry.

Basically all of this meh was caused by the super cold, (round #2) going through the house.

Thursday, over to fix supper for Mom after work, back home to get some things done, then back to Mom's to get her off to bed, home to crash.

Friday, took the day because the sitter that was scheduled to stay with Mom called in sick. Basically spent the entire day either running truck errands for Mrs. or checking on Mom. Mrs. and Joonyer are both on the board of a local charter school for at-risk kids, and one of my best friends is the chairman of the board so it's kind of a family affair. Big fundraiser on Saturday at the school, so both Mrs. and I were running around like crazy to get everything finished up for Saturday. Spent most of Friday night making coleslaw for 200 plates of BBQ we sold, crashed hard when we were done.

Saturday, up to walk the pup, check on Mom, then off to the school. Had to put together the PA system that the school just bought so the musicians could start...which meant unboxing and unwrapping every single piece of brand new gear. Got done just in time for the first musician to start. Of course, nobody told me this until I arrive and everyone is standing there looking at the boxes like it's some kind of alien being. Served BBQ plates, helped with silent auction/raffles, played stage hand for the 5 different singer-songwriters playing, and finally helped break down and truck coolers, tents, and catering gear back home. Walked the pup, then had about 2 hours to relax so I sat in the Big Chair like a zombie. Then took two BBQ plates over to Mom's and relieved the sitter, watched the game, the back home for a large tumbler of Bushmills 10 Year Single Malt to calm the post-game nerves and crashed.

Sunday, up early because internal clock and alarm clock did not sync. Coffee, walk pup, check on Mom, grocery run, check on Mom, back home to change HVAC filters and install solar floodlight on the shed, back to fix supper for Mom, Sis got home from Louisville so back home to eat and then Walking Deads, then crashed hard again.

Internal and alarm clocks still not in sync this morning, so not extra sleep. Fundraiser was a success, Clemson is laughaBOWL eligible, so let's give it an overall score of 17.99/19 Covids.

Friday gale conditions and cold. Met with a committee putting on an oyster roast fundraiser scheduled for Saturday night. Saturday morning, gale wind and rain. Decision to postpone event until Sunday afternoon.

Then, Saturday night, Clemson so unexpectedly wins at the end! Things are looking up. Weather improves Sunday morning, compressed set-up but oyster roast goes smoothly in the afternoon (~400-500 in attendance). Even the thoroughly wet firewood burned for the bonfire. 65 bushels steamed and devoured. Clean up the site and get home early.

Same as our football team

Nov 8, 2021, 9:03 AM

They beat a really bad football team. Then celebrated like the state dropped all charges. Which was a lot like me in the 5K race I ran in that morning: Starting out full of hope and conquering intent, each mile marker revealing another injury of some nature just short of incapacitation, fatigue and incompetence accumulating until a last second stumbling dash to finish line allowed me to beat a lady pushing a baby stroller. Which I called victory.

I didn't make that up. Like most runners my age I have a foot that hurts all the time, a knee that hurts occasionally, and a hip that used to hurt, then didn't, and now does again. I have learned how to stretch and manage those joints so they carry on, and in anticipation of an actual race I stopped running 5 days ago. Come Sat morning I was single minded in purpose, to go for a personal best. 'Personal' is the type of relative term that renders meaningless the word 'best', but it's what I have left. So I was going for it. Any race time less than 30:00 would meet the qualification. By some margin.

So, off we went. The first half mile is down grade, so I really got after it down the hill, dang near a sprint. I mean, if you don't gain time there, where are you going to do it? We get to the flat at the bottom, and I know we have to make up that altitude over the next 2.6 miles. Gotta keep up the pace anyway, but I can tell I've used up a lot of available gas. Well, who should serendipitously go past me just then but a shapely woman in black tights and a little pink tu-tu to match her pink shoes. Whimsical, yes, but more importantly, easy to spot. And pleasant. And she was going not much faster than I, maybe gaining 20 feet every minute or so, and I was already going at a pretty good clip, so no idiot me, I thought, "Follow that". I may have actually thought, "Watch that." But still. I had an aesthetic rabbit.

With about a mile to go the pink tu tu began to slowly pull away. I thought, "No problem, I'll catch her in a minute." A few minutes later, "No problem, I'll catch her in a minute." At the quarter mile mark there was no catching her. And that's when I saw it, about 100 yards ahead of me: a baby stroller. That's actually a thing, women who ought to be home caring for offspring, instead racing them for 3.1 miles in a stroller. No, heck no, the baby stroller is not going to beat me.

So, what I said above actually happened. First a lady in a tu tu outran me. Then there I was, hurting, out of gas, gasping for breath, no longer pretending to be an athlete who deserved to be in the field, tracking down someone who had not only just given birth but was now pushing the product ahead of her. I beat her. In the evening I was thinking about that moment, and I saw our football team make a last second stand to preserve what they will call, without any sign of embarrassment, a proud moment.

So, I'm proud of beating the lady with a stroller, and for staying with Miss Tu-Tu for most of the race.

The only bad part is that after all that, the timer malfunctioned, so I don't know what my time was. I am pretty sure it was just under 30:00, but there is no way to know. At least a football team has a score to look at. All I got is the stroller. It's not the same. And all I have to defend myself with is that the stroller finished in the top 20% of the field.

That's right. To defend myself I have to say, "Hey, the lady with the stroller was pretty fast." And we just beat the best 4 loss football team you ever saw. After that was Sunday, and that was the weekend.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Couple of things...

Nov 8, 2021, 9:26 AM

Louisville isn't a 'bad' football team. They're not great, but they do have talent of the offensive side of the ball and there's a reason they're one of the best rushing teams in the country. They're like us in one respect...a few breaks and they could easily be a 1 loss team this year. They haven't been particularly good on defense this year, but given that, they're a team that has a target on Clemson every year because of the history of our series. The fact that we are struggling on offense, it doesn't take a lot to see why they played more inspired defense against us.

Before you jump on me for making excuses...that's not the case here. We're nowhere as good a team as we've been used to, and Louisville isn't nearly as bad as they've been the last couple years and those two things met head on. It's not a signature win by any stretch, but I am giving the Fighting Seafoods a little credit for being an improved team playing at home and rising up to play inspired ball against a hated rival. And make no mistake, this game just further cemented that target mentality for our game on the schedule in coming years and making them more dangerous unless we get our issues fixed.

It's been a crazy year across the board, and I'm not sure anyone is going to be immune to a stupid loss...including UGA.

Picked up buddy at airport Thursday night.
Knocked off work Friday, up early and drove towards Louisville. Weather was beautiful, leaves were peaking and made for an enjoyable drive.
Had two bourbon distillery tours Friday - one in Danville and one it Lville proper (Wilderness Trail and Peerless).

GREAT dinner Friday night at local dive/bar/Qjoint in walking distance from our rental.
Enjoyed some newly acquired Bourbon before and after dinner.

Saturday up early and took a nice long walk all the way to Indiana across a cool converted RR bridge.
Got game ready and watched most of Wake-UNC madness.

Picked up some local pizza (incl pickle!) on way to tailgate. Pickle pizza was...interesting. Tailgate spot was nice grass lot next to Churchill downs. Surrounded by friendly Luhville fans who generously plied us with alcohol. Randomly ran into another buddy from work who was in town with family. Drank great quantities of bourbon.

Walked to game, went briefly to ###### seats then moved down way closer to field. Tigers wiin!!

Got home, crashed and up early Sunday for another long sobering walk. Crystal blue skies again. Had some excellent chicken and biscuits then hit 3rd and final distillery tour at Angels' Envy in downtown Lville.

Then in the car and zipped back to home, dropping buddy at airport on the way.

Tired, poorer, but very happy. Hints of vanilla, caramel and baking spices. Very impressed with Louisville (town-of). Food was great, really liked the neighborhood we stayed in. 99 stars out of 21.

But my dad had his cardiologist look at it and he said it looked perfectly healthy, so I got that going for me.

Friday- work. Queen and I went to RiRa for a Guinness and then to Essex for dinner. The Lamb lollipops were delicious. They have a good wine by the glass selection that's not overly expensive. Then went to Buho bar for after dinner drink.

Friday - daughterof-'s first swim meet. Only a second off county qualifying time for her 50m freestyle after only being cleared to start practicing about a week and a half ago (concussion protocols from the HS comp cheer team). Not bad for a first showing.

Saturday - relaxing morning, a little afternoon football then twenty one pilots for the evening's entertainment while keeping an eye on the score. Traffic past the CFB Hall of Fame to get to the arena was FUBAR. Not everyone's cuppa for music, yeah yeah, but my kids like them, as does wifeof-, so therefore I like them too. But it was a good show and I can't complain. Add to that the revelation that the encore hadn't started in the Benz for the Metallica show when we were already out, meant we beat that added traffic mess.

Sunday was relaxing. Church in the morning, grocery store, prep for work travel this week. Giants won. Won my FFB match up in my money league. Blew a 35pt Jonathan Taylor game to likely lose in the Lunge league.

8/10. Would do again.

Bermuda/Bahamas would be nice to see the Tigers but I would take a weekend in Nashville or San Diego

Circles Around the Sun was awesome in Asheville, lots of dancing, Salvage Station is a cool venue, band was indoors which was nice but still could see them from outside

leaf peeping was excellent on drive up to Asheville and to Louisville and back, it was the weekend to take a long drive

Louisville is a cool town. Had a tour booked for Angel's Envy but got there and it was cancelled for some reason, did get some free cocktails from them and some snacks to ease the pain. Against the Grain Brewery was good but their wings were excellent! Drank some Rabbit Hole bourbon which was good, only bourbon I drank during the trip. Hit up Goodwood Brewing which was cool

Had some excellent bfast at place called the Cafe, walked dogs all around the city and Ohio River waterfront and tried to cross over to Indiana but bridge said no doggos :( Hit up Akasha Brewing with the pups instead

Took a boat ride on the Ohio which was fun. Like Pittsburgh, Louisville has done incredible things with the waterfront and health of the river, 20 years ago nobody was hanging out at the river

Tried to search out the aquarium bar at the Galt House but they got rid of it last year

Was rushing to get to hang out and tailgate with KenM but got to the stadium just in time, had to pick up a suitcase of White Castles before ubered over there, snuck 5 white castles into the stadium for snacks

Game was excellent, loved how we fought back to not only take the lead but the goal line stand! Way to go Tigers!!!

Took road 25E some of the way back and saw the lookout of beautiful Cumberland Gap, pretty country

I love Clemson football roadtrips

Saturday: Up early to hunt. Saw deer, ducks among other wildlife. Ate breakfast, went to store, boiled peanuts and made vegetable soup, threw football, watched college football, built a fire for Clemson game. All with son.

Sunday: Ate with mom and MfOjr. Sadly took him back to his mom's for a couple of days. Went hunting, watched numerous deer. Watched end of race, grilled chicken wings, drank beer, went to sleep.
