Deandre Hopkins the best receiver in Clemson History....

Jan 11, 2013, 8:57 AM

Thanks for the highlights, memorable catches and wins you contributed to the football program as well as being a great representative of Clemson football. You will be missed but I totally understand.

Ummm...Terry Smith says hello but then again I kinda feel that way about all the Tigers from my youth. CJ Spiller is the only one of the recent ones that I think of in the same regard as I do the ones I grew up watching.

Then you must not have seen Jerry Butler who is...

in our Ring of Honor play.

Jerry Butler

It is close between Jerry and Nuk...I still give Nuk edge. They both made significant contributions during critical times for the program.

Let me clear. I am talking about the modern era...

of college football.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So where does the "modern" era begin for you?

Jan 11, 2013, 9:30 AM

Are you seriously saying that modern history for Clemson does not go back to the late 70s ??

Butler did what he did and we were an option team. Can you

Imagine what he would have done in this offense?

I believe we were an "I-formation" team when Steve Fuller was our QB during Jerry Butler's junior and senior years.

We ran the veer option earlier when Red Parker was our coach, but I think Charly Pell changed it when he was promoted. Still a lot of option plays, but Fuller threw the ball a lot.

No doubt about it

Terry Smith was great...saw every game he played in...but Nuk was the best.

I'm thinking Terry Smith was related to Nuk. An Uncle perhaps? Maybe confusing with someone else.

Terry was Nuk's uncle. Also heard that Terry opted to come back for a senior year and didn't have as good numbers and got hurt near the end of the year. This may have influenced Nuk's decision a little.

That makes a lot of sense***

Re: Played with Terry. Great WR, Nuk is better though, BTW,

Jan 11, 2013, 9:14 AM [ in reply to Re: No doubt about it ]

Nuk is Terry's nephew, Terry's sister is Nuk's mom if I'm not mistaken.

I've got to agree. There's the catch in the last seconds to beat the gamecocks in a great comeback. There were so many 3rd and long passes from Fuller to Butler that I've lost count. Clemson won 11 games his senior season back when the regular season was only 11 games and we didn't have conference championship games.
