David Collins explains hard foul on Duke's Moore, apologizes

Feb 10, 2022, 10:48 PM

Clemson's David Collins was ejected after a hard foul while Duke's Wendell Moore was in the air for a bucket after a steal from Collins seconds before.

Collins was seen apologizing to the Duke bench and hugging Duke's Coach K before heading to the tunnel.

He posted the following on Instagram: "I was going to try to block it from behind but I was going too fast and I couldn't stop(.) I realized I needed to stop when it was too late(.) I never have been a dirty player (-) never will I(.) I wish bro a healthy season and I never tried to hurt anybody but I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion(.) I have respect towards Duke and Clemson and I apologize to everybody for a reckless play(.) I'm glad Wendell is okay"

Sorry David, but that's about intentional as it gets...

...watched the replay several times. No excuse for that.

I believe he was frustrated and out of

control. Wasn’t intending the outcome, pre say, but certainly made a decision to disregard both of their safety.

You're wrong. It happened just like David said. In fact, he tried to protect the fella. Watch it frame by frame. David stumbled and awkwardness happened. Just unfortunate thing that happens in sports.

You're entitled to your opinions as David said, but it's like you have an agenda or something. You've posted several times about it.

LOL I certainly have no agenda...

Feb 11, 2022, 12:25 AM

...it was flagrant and intentional.

Absolutely correct ..... he did not mean to foul him in that manner. The call was correct, but does not measure intent.

have to disagree

watched it almost frame by frame...

he was never going for the block - never looked like he was getting ready to jump

he made no attempt to slow down or change his angle to the basket

now i'm not saying he intentionally took the guy out, but i think he lost his composure for a moment and didn't think about doing anything (and obviously did not do anything) to avoid running into the guy in the air

it starts to look intentional...it even looks like he leaned in toward the guy in the air

It should never have happened, but since it did, a heartfelt

Feb 11, 2022, 8:29 AM

apology is the best that can be done. Just glad no one was hurt. Collins hit the floor at the base of the stanchion just about as hard as the other guy hit the floor, but luckily for him, that was padded. The floor where the Duke player went splat was not.

I agree. I don’t for a minute believe it was intentional or malicious. Boneheaded, dumb or any similar adjective, yes. But as I said before he was out of control. When that happens you cannot control the outcome. This is pretty much what Collins said when he explained it too.

the fact that he buries

Feb 11, 2022, 8:39 AM

his shoulder into the back of the dudes legs, almost leading with his shoulder for impact is suspect and probably was a split second decision made in frustration that he couldn't get there in time to make a play on the ball. I was even pissed after seeing that replay. I was like kick that dude out of the game that's uncalled for...and dangerous. Hard fouls can be apart of the game but that was beyond a hard foul.

Same here. When I saw it live my reaction was what the H$ll ws he doing? The call was correct and the ejection was warranted but I still don’t think it was intentional, but boneheaded and out of control.
