Dave Clawson signs long-term deal with Wake Forest

On the eve of playing for an ACC Championship spot, Wake Forest and Dave Clawson agreed to a long-term contract extension, the school announced Friday.

"Dave Clawson is an elite coach, leader and program builder and we are excited to announce this reaffirmation of his long-term commitment to Wake Forest University," said Wake Forest AD John Currie. "Our desire is for him to finish his coaching career as Wake Forest's all-time winningest coach. Coach Clawson and his staff have brought an unprecedented amount of success to Demon Deacon football and he is truly one of the elite coaches in the country. Thanks to his leadership, our football student-athletes have experienced a school-record six-straight bowl games while continuing to raise the standard of excellence in the classroom and community."

If Wake Forest beats BC in their noon start tomorrow, the Deacs clinch their first division title since 2006.

Good for the conference. Hopefully his agreeing to sign was contingent on WF showing more commitment to football

Jim Grobe also was getting job offers and was really respected until he stayed at Wake too long.

That makes me 0-2 on my prediction.
Kiffin to Florida.
Clawson to VT.

I didn't see the details of the new contract. I'm sure it is a raise, but can't believe WF could match VT.

He caught lightning in a bottle this year. After a couple of 3-8 seasons he will get canned like all the other WF coaches who had a short but unsustainable bit of success.

Great for Dave, congrats. He is a genuine guy, very good coach, and is always respectful to opponents. He is great for the ACC and for Wake Forest. What he has done at Wake many would say isn’t even possible.

If NCSU wins tonight, I will be the biggest Wake Forest fan in the nation tomorrow. No way I want NCSU as ACC Atlantic Champs ??????

Wake does support football. Just don't get the fan support with alumni in area. Their indoor football facility is really nice. They will get even better players now since the portal is so big today...
