such a green AD. Graham Neff couldn't even pull the trigger on Brad Brownell. I mean, that was an easy one. Do we really have faith he can maneuver us through the most important conference expansion of all time that is dividing the haves and have nots?

This is an important point in our school's history. Wouldn't any school prefer to have a powerful, connected, and/or experienced Director of Athletics?

This is an important time in CFB history. This sport may be heading for ruin unless the Presidents sit down and figure something out.

Isn't the BIG Commissioner the same

....guy that completely botched their entire conference's football season a little over a year ago?
He was new, and looked totally inept. Now he looks like a genius.
If Neff is the right guy for the job it won't matter how much experience he has.

Did he really botch it? He got Ohio in playing a 6 game cupcake schedule.

Yes. The BIG about had a insurection and half members were thereatening to leave the league.
Meanwhile, Ohio State took advantage of the situation and ended up in the CFP out of sheer dumb-luck and other teams losing. The BIG Commissioner had zero to do with it.

We're in the midst of the biggest shift in the operating model of college sports since integration. It's the best time ever to be blessed with a young energetic AD who brings new ideas and isn't married to an extict system.

Can’t do worse than previous AD signing long term ACC contract

Clemson should have dominated those discussions. Instead we have a junk tv contract and no special benefits.

Neff will have very little influence on this. This will be in the hands of President Clements and the BOT. Coach Swinney will even have more say so than Neff.

Dabo will absolutely have a seat at the table for these discussions
Jul 2, 2022, 10:28 AM
|

The most glaring question that will have to be answered is what does the BOT and President want in terms of athletic funding. If they are all happy with the current funds and current pace of all sports then they may stay put.
However, everyone knows football is the “front porch” to most schools in our footprint. Our applications increased a ton after 2016 CFP. To remain relevant and grow the Academic institution will be the talking point that will need to be addressed. Clemson will always be a special school regardless of conference. Just how relevant does it want to be on a National stage going forward.

The BOT and President Clements were certainly all-in on hiring a new baseball coach and making promises in basketball. It seems they want to improve the entire athletic department.

What is he supposed to do? You can't force your way into other conferences. You can't force the networks to sign a new TV contract.
The reason for this is simple. The ACC has smaller schools than the Big Ten and SEC. They have smaller fan bases, not as many blue blood programs, and draw lower ratings. This idea that Swofford, Phillips, Radakovich, Neff, or whoever, could do some Jedi Mind Trick on the TV networks and magically get more money is silly.

It's very simple...

IF "P5" football goes to two superconfences, then more teams are needed. If that's the case, then there's no way Clemson will not be at the top of the heap for inclusion. We will get a seat at that table, and we'd have to flat out refuse to be a part of it to not be included.
With that said, I refuse to believe we're head to only two major conferences. I still believe the four super conference model will pan out, and if that's the case we'll stay put and grow this conference.
Regardless of the final setup, we'd have to flat out refuse to be a part of it to not be included.
That, and this isn't solely Neff's responsibility. The entire university administration from the board to the president to Neff and more will be involved.
I know I'm asking too much and its not personal, but folks who think it's "realistic" that we could get left out of whatever structure comes to fruition, well, those folks aren't being realistic. IMO.

The sky is always falling until it didn’t yesterday so it will surely fall tomorrow. What makes football fun is the kids that play and the coaches that coach. How many games do you recon them that get “left behind” is going to play. Football will be just as fun when we play in the national left behind championship.
