Dabo goes nuclear on Pace

The whole TV world saw Dabo go nuclear on Pace for making a mistake on the field. Tough love, hard coaching! But it worked. Pace responded with a career night. So why the kid gloves and babying of DJ? Is the QB beyond tough coaching? How many mistakes did DJ make on the field? The same bad reads and bad throws over and over, but gets praise on how hard he competes. DJ needs the hard coaching and needs to watch a few series from the sidelines. Unless he’s a Lyn J Dixon and gets his feelings hurt and runs back to CA. Just my observation.

And in the place where DJ is right now... with both on and off the field factors... that yelling at him may not be the most appropriate or effective thing.

And it was tipped and picked, Dabo went off on him. So, he's not always treating DJ with kid gloves.

^ This ^. I Have seen him do that a time or two as he got on him a bit at NC State one drive. Was it Pace level, no, but QBs and RBs are absolutely different cats. RBs need to be a bit angry imo. My only gripe about RBs is we should have run Mafah a LOT more imo. he has way more wiggle and burst than Pace appears to have.

Seems consistent from a fan view point...instead of yelling at DJ let him sit for a series or 2.

I get a kick out of this.
Yeah, DJ hasn’t played well.
It’s the coaches job to know how each player responds to certain inputs.
For some players yelling and screaming at them works, for others it doesn’t .
One thing I think we can all agree is that dabo Is a master motivator, and he has a number of rings to prove it. He doesn’t lay into guys to make himself or fans feel better, he does it to get results.

I kinda feel like part of DJ's problems are in his head. I don't think ripping him a new one (again) is the answer. Thats part of being a great coach. Understanding the type of feedback that lead to your players success. I understand whatever they are doing with DJ doesn't appear to be working, but I'm sure the coaches know that tearing him down couldn't help.

Pace's false start was inexcusable because the play on the field was to execute a hard count and try to make the defense jump. There is no way anyone on the offense should flinch there.

Dabo typically goes nuclear for MENTAL mistakes. Not physical ones, like a bad throw. If a player doesn't execute the fundamentals, commits a stupid penalty, runs the wrong play/route, or just does something utterly stupid (like Teasdall's self-called fake punt), he will get an earful.

If I learned one thing in 35 years of managing people it is that everyone is different and is motivated differently. My simple, country boy way of saying this was that you have to get to know your people and which ones need a pat on the back to get them going and which ones need a kick in the tail to get them going. If you get those 2 backwards you won’t succeed with either one. I don’t know DJ or Kobe so I can’t say which approach is best with either of them but I’ll bet Dabo knows how to handle them.
