In what universe would this be considered a better job than Clemson? They have about the same history as the Coots in the past 20 years

I think both would be lucky. Better for both, especially for Chad.

what is the status of Swinney's contract extension?
Aug 23, 2017, 11:22 AM

Last I heard, Swinney was acting as his own agent since his recently passed away. I don't think he would be interested, but A&M has a LOT of money to throw around. Clemson can pay enough to make money a non-factor and Swinney isn't motivated by money anyway. Regardless, they still need to get the new contract done soon just to ensure that he's near the top compared to other elite coaches.
Having his son on the team and another two yet to come certainly lays down significant roots.

I think having his son playing is the biggest contract extension possible. Same thing for Venables. Last I heard, Dabo's last contract extension put him in the top 10 for college coaches. I'd love to be a little more competitive salary wise, just to make it more of a reach for big programs to even entertain the idea. Never say never (actual words of Dabo), but I believe it would be a hard sell for anyone to get him to leave, including Alabama.

There is more to a job than just $$$$. I don't see Dabo as the type of coach to follow the money like many coaches.
I believe Clemson is more than just a job to Dabo and I don't see him leaving what he has put his heart and soul into. Most important I see Dabo honoring his commitment to Clemson because of Clemson's faith and commitment to him in the earlier years. Plus Dabo is commitment to the players because that's what he has expected out of them.
I believe Dabo is "All In" for the long haul.

Totally agree on Dabo not being a "follow the money" guy. Anyone who has paid attention should realize that. He has the first of his 3 boys playing on the team this year. He has built this program from the ground up. It's a program and culture that is made in his image and personality. He is already a living legend at Clemson. He has an incredible amount of "sweat equity" in Clemson.
However, it is a two way stree. Clemson is still obligated to pay him a fair market value, which, based on his achievements, is firmly in the top 10 and likely in the top 5. I'd like to see the deal done in mid-season before the coaching turnover starts just to prevent any distractions of BS rumors.

I think his sons coming into the program make this a stretch. Also of note, is that even after the championship game he made mention to TDP that he "wouldn't be here without you brother." Dabo is a greatful person and hasn't forgotten about where he was before he was brought into the Clemson program.

Given the current state of Dabo and his backing by the Clemson administration and fans, I think the only program that has even a chance of luring him away rhymes with Al-uh-bam-uh. However, even that is a stretch because of the problem of being the new coach to follow the long-time legend in Little Nikki.
