the first place, which ratchets up the intensity and potential danger, and greatly increases the likelihood these things happen? Sure, the police are clearly wrong in this case, but we can't pretend that the suspect played no role in the outcome.

Why do people have trouble with complying? I can almost promise you. If you do NOT FIGHT the police, almost 99% of the encounters will go smoothly. Evidence has suggested this. Do I think officers sometimes go too far? Absolutely! Do I think the police are always in the right? No! Do I think you should comply and handle things in a civilized legal manner? Of course! How is this hypocrisy? Almost everyone I have encountered will tell you the same things!
Here is a good rule to live by. If you are pulled over or encounter police , do not act aggressive, do not struggle, notify the officer that you will answer any and all questions with an attorney present, you don not consent to search. That is all! If you respond in any other way, then you are a fool!

Once he's under control, stop with the beating. The cops obviously lost their heads and went too far. They are wrong, and should be disciplined and/or prosecuted accordingly. My point is, it didn't happen in a vacuum, and if the suspect was resisting to start with, he played a role in escalating the situation. It's wrong to resist and fight with the police just because you don't think you've done anything wrong, or because you don't like the fact that you are being detained or arrested, and that happens A LOT more that police wrongly abusing a suspect like this.
