ACC will always be limited in terms of market potential because of the number of small private schools in the league, many of whom are basketball-first athletic departments. It’s not going to be the Big Ten or the SEC. Not now, not ever.
Despite those inherent challenges, I think Swofford has done a pretty good job of trying to maximize what he’s working with from both a competitive and a financial standpoint.

If every school in the ACC was a public college like Clemson and FSU or a really big private college like Notre Dame filled with 80,000+ seat stadiums that was a league that was always Football First I would change my view..
It simply is not.

Your analysis is correct. That is not at fault. Beyond that

is the question of where Clemson belongs. If the ACC is weak stacked up to other conferences in terms of revenue and exposure generated by TV then Clemson should seek a new home with a football first conference.

Where are we going to go? SEC? Not a chance they are already loaded with quality teams and we don't add a new TV market. Big 12? The travel cost associated with that would absolutely kill our budget.

regular season to boot, simply change up the divisions to the most competitive teams in the upper and the rest in the lower. Promote and relegate between every two years. Move to 9 games for the extra league inventory, but have the upper division host the 9th game (5th home league game) every year as reward for on-field success.
Better TV more often with more frequent competitive match-ups, extra TV period with the 9th league game, more of which would be played in the league's best environments, and a fair and level playing field for every program to earn titles and their way to the top determined on the field of play. This is the only 9-game approach that doesn't harm the league's top programs, rob from quality OOC opportunities, and ultimately harm the league overall in an effort to prop up the poor.

You lost me at Swofford has done a pretty good job. It's sounds like you work in his UNCheat office. There are some really bad TV stations out there and people are into ACC sports 247. It sounds like the SEC network is making tens of millions for the schools and we couldn't come up with anything to match. Seems like Swofford dropped the ball hard and should have had this deal done more than a year ago when the market was hot. I find it hard to believe that the SEC could make all that money off a network but the ACC would lose money when we might have the 2 best and most entertaining programs in college football.

I know the Usual Suspects like to pile on Old Swoffie, but let's not make up things just to fit your agenda.

creating a tv network at this point would be folly

cable tv = newspapers
Unpopular to say but cable is antiquated and won't be around 5 years from now. If ESPN/ACC want to create a subscription type streaming service then that's one thing. But the distribution and started up costs won't bring any value to the conference.
It's time to think outside the box
