couple of comments - re: refs and morris

Jan 4, 2014, 7:24 PM

Watched closely on replay today and I think the refs did a decent job - no need to freak out on any of that.

Morris will not be OC anywhere other than Clemson - see contract.

you are not serious about the refs?

21 penalties for 204 yards = flag happy officials.

Jan 4, 2014, 7:45 PM

I won't say that perhaps most of what they called wasn't correct, but the huge unsportsmanlike (Beasley) and personal foul (Shuey) they called on us were potential game changers and were very, very iffy.

Also, what possesses an official to throw a flag for illegal motion on an offense that is taking a knee with seconds left in the game and the opposing coach not even calling his time outs? Was it illegal motion? Probably. Do you call it in that situation? NO.

either that or they were trying to undress our defensive pass rushers...or trade jerseys before the game is even over, kinda like in soccer...?

every call wasn't bad, but they WERE TERRIBLE!!! & very biased!

Are we the ONLY team in the history of football to get a sideline interference penalty for pouring Gatorade on a coach?

It's because our players were "Giving him the business"

and the late hit.....

Jan 4, 2014, 9:05 PM

What does Late Hit Mean?

A penalty assessed when a player makes significant contact with an opposing player after the play has ended. While there is a small margin for error, the players are expected to do everything possible to avoid contact after the play. Late hits fall under the category of unnecessary roughness penalties, and are assessed fifteen yards from the end of the play.

The two major forms of late hits are out of bounds, when a player is hit well after they have crossed the white barrier on the sideline, and after the play, when the referee has blown the whistle and a player makes contact with another player well afterwards. Late hits are considered judgment calls, and often depend on the amount of contact and distance from the sideline where they occur. On late hits in the field of play, it usually depends on the time after the whistle where the contact occurs. Late hits are costly penalties due to the fifteen yard penalty assessed from the end of the play, and in the case of a defensive late hit, an automatic first down.

So their saying it was after the play was dead is BS. You can't make that call until the play ends.

I just don't recall ever seeing a penalty accessed like this. Could be wrong, but seems like the victim of the late hit always retains possession. Refs reminded me of Barney Fife.
