What if China enslaved Whites

Feb 16, 2021, 9:02 PM

and captured us from Europe 400 years ago. They considered us subhuman and animals.

Then we gain freedom about 150 years ago but until the 60s are still considered second class citizens and can’t vote and can’t go to movies and can’t drink out of the same water fountains as the Chinese.

Do you really think you wouldn't resent the Chinese?

His point is how white people find it a bit incredulous that American blacks have resentment towards given the overwhelming majority of our nation's history saw them subjugated or oppressed by white people.

norm. This is a country with Western values, a NATO member. Yet even today, there are large extended families at war with other extended families for injustices done generations previously.

From the outside looking in, it was clearly a tribal and backward attitude. However, the family members felt very deeply the injustice. What was done to one of a tribe was done to all in the tribe, the sense of injustice owned by family members generations removed from the act. The desire for justice that led to such a culture is legitimate. However, a rational understanding of exactly who did what to whom, and what amends are due at the individual level, and what can and cannot be passed on, was replaced by a general tribal justice.

It was a lower order level of thinking, emotional rather than rational, and was limiting to everyone, freeing to no one. The end result was that no justice was ever actually done.

This is exactly why we need to educate people

Feb 17, 2021, 7:59 AM

If we just ignore history we won’t learn from it

I wish more people could see the plantations and communities and history of the SE in real life to get a better understanding of how it actually worked

For example, the Gullah Geechie culture shows has helped inspire our lifestyle down here on the coast. Including, but not limited to arts, cousins and using the land(I’m curious if this is taught in history books in schools today)

Knowledge is power

Re: What if China enslaved Whites

Feb 17, 2021, 8:53 AM

I can understand the underlying resentment. The Irish still resent the English. The Russians still harbor animus towards Germany. The Chinese and most Asians still are not fond of the Japanese. However, none of the whites living today owned slaves and most white's ancestors didn't. Most of us growing up in the 50's and 60's didn't support voter suppression and crimes of violence against blacks.

I understand the generalized mistrust in the black community towards whites. However, it has been my experience when talking to older blacks, the one's who should still be angry, that for the most part they have forgiven those that oppressed them. Younger blacks are as a whole much angrier than those who were badly mistreated.

Is it not misguided then, for those that see racism behind every door and a system of structural racism imposed by whites, to expect deliverance from these same people?

Certainly racism persists. Things can always get better. The playing field is never going to be fully equal. However, in our current society, opportunity to better oneself is available. If education is embraced and stressed, much as it is in the Asian immigrant community, isn't the door open to success for blacks? African and Caribbean black immigrants seem to think so.

Instead, here we are. Congress is to take up discussion on reparations. Only 58% of blacks support this. 81% of whites do not. If this were to be enacted, this would not do anything to cool racial tensions.

Yes, I do understand that there is resentment from blacks towards whites. However, as much as I wish we could undo all of the atrocities we can't. Our country apparently had an 8 year lull of systemic racism under the twice elected black man-Obama? Now, the world has gone to hell in 4 short years?

Race is being used as a cudgel to gain power. Sure it exists, but resentment and embracing victimhood along with depending on whites to fix all that ails the black community will keep things as they are.The same policies of doling out money, housing and food, while perhaps noble on the face of it, have kept many blacks mired in poverty. It is not the only answer, but education is the ticket out.

The answer is not easing up on educational standards, rigid quotas and reparations.

The short answer opants is yes. I understand the resentment. What is your solution?

Could we also argue this is somewhat of a sentiment with all age groups of all backgrounds? The youth are more passionate and emotional for whatever cause they rally behind, and they mellow and become more calm with age?

Usually don't see too many 50+ people having riots and protests. Well, unless they're pro-Nazi ones at the Capitol.

Re: What if China enslaved Whites

Feb 17, 2021, 12:51 PM

opants and Catahoula® are walking talking proof that propaganda works. You are revealing your white guilt and allowing emotions to rule over rationale thinking.

The No. 1 reason blacks resent whites (assuming your assertion is true) is because of the cadre of race hustlers out there that make money by making blacks victims. And, we can blame Apple and the smart phone for enabling most of it now as well as the giant liberal tech companies that have figured out they need to align with the demographics that continuously feed off their product (the left).

Here's what I resent: seeing the blacks generation after generation in the same poverty-ridden, crime-ridden, drug-ridden life while democrats keep them there with government dependence while at the same time blaming me for their condition. I resent paying taxes for 50 years to enable democrats to keep an entire race stagnant for the most part. I've done nothing over the years but go out of my way to help blacks achieve, but I am a racist.

Just like the white girl on the Bachelor is a racist, yet she is trying to marry a black man. The backwards thinking is intolerable.

Yeah, as humans we all get that blacks resent what happened to them in the slave trade and into the 1950s. Do they resent the blacks that caught slaves in Africa, the sailors that brought them here, plantation owners, etc.? Maybe.

But no I do not expect a black person to resent me for being white as I walk down the street. If the 150M libs are okay with that, this nation has a lot of chit that will hit the fan.

I do not resent blacks for being an enormous drain on society for the last 50 years while halting the progress of accepting individual responsibility within the black community.

But at some point we have to agree to a reset and look forward.

Yep. You are.

I do not resent blacks for being an enormous drain on society for the last 50 years while halting the progress of accepting individual responsibility within the black community.

Wow. Yep. You're making a play to become P&R's biggest racist. This will be another post that goes in the bookmark file so you don't pretend you didn't post it.

Of course, it's no wonder you don't understand what caused the black community to be the situations it's in. Let me ask this: Exactly what magical date do you think racism suddenly ended and blacks should have pulled themselves up by their bootstraps to succeed? Give me a specific time when they stopped being held back by systemic racism and it became all their fault.

I'm not surprised you're from my hometown. That place has been swimming with racism for decades.

My stance on the race problem

Feb 17, 2021, 6:47 PM

is not what you think. I’m not in favor of reparations at all. It bothers me that the black family unit doesn’t stick together. This will be controversial, but I often ask myself the question why is Africa so poor and uncivilized with so many natural resources?

But it still helps to put yourself in the other persons shoes. I spent a lot of time around blacks growing up since I played basketball and was often the only white guy on the team. My experience is blacks don’t hate all whites by any stretch, but they resent being on the outside looking in. Once I declined drinking water during a time out and one of my teammates thought it was because he was black and I didn’t want to drink after a black person. Very sad he felt that way, and it impacted me.

Most all of us have resentment for various reasons. I’m old enough to remember when there was an almost blanket hatred of Yankees by most southerners. And I’m sure it was much worse of course in the generations before me. That has largely gone away for the most part in my opinion. But it took a long time. Maybe you’re pissed because you were born into a poor family, or your dad left the family. You’re pissed because you’re short or your not athletic or school comes hard to you. I can go on and on.

The best way to deal with these problems out of your control is to not consider yourself a victim and work harder to overcome whatever your roadblock is. Clearly a lot of African-Americans have not taken this approach. So I’m not defending that attitude.

But my only point is the stigma of knowing Whites owned you for so many years and that you were basically a second-class citizen until just 50 years ago or so is a tough thing to get over. I’m in the financial industry, and there’s just very little generational transfer of wealth with blacks. That may be what us whites take for granted and don’t understand. Im willing to bet that most of you have a family member that could help you out with a financial hardship. That is rarely the case with black families. So from my perspective, I just try to be patient and hope that race relations will continue to slowly improve. Trying to imagine what it would feel like to be in a country where I’m a former enslaved minority is a healthy thing to do imo. Does it mean I think African-Americans bear no responsibility for not taking steps to improve their own lives? No. However, at the same time I try to keep in mind the hardships that have happened to them in the past that make it difficult for them to have always have a positive attitude.

Ha! My mother used to say if Yankees that moved to the south had friends up north they would not move to the south.

But I do think as Southerners looking back on the hatred we’ve had for Yankees since the Civil War is not a bad analogy as it relates to blacks resentment of whites.

Yeah I agree with that. Disdain and ridicule is more accurate than hatred.

But I try to imagine let’s say 1865 to 1980. I think in those years most Southerners truly hated Yankees. That’s the impression I got anyway as a child in the 70s.
