Favre should understand that the Jaguars could have four or five Devonta Smiths running routes, but if they don't have a decent quarterback throwing, it wouldn't matter at all.

That doesn't seem to make sense, to be fair? No offense, sincerely, but, for example, think of all those exciting catches Justyn Ross had in Trevor's national title win alone; so many of them were off-target... but the WR made the catch. Or Tampa Bay this year with Tom Brady throwing dimes left and right... but the WR's & TE's dropping countless catchable balls (which I think will be an outlier in the Super Bowl).
Ironically, in other interviews Favre has explicitly said Trevor is the best QB in the draft & his take above is whether or not Jacksonville needs another QB more than a WR. It's at least worth our respect, just like Dabo constantly insists is worth giving to others, even Charlotte & UConn. Just my 2 cents.

Smith isn't even the best receiver in this draft. Jamar Chase is. Buyer beware the team that spends a high draft pick on a WR that comes out of nowhere in his final collegiate season to have a huge year after prior seasons of mediocrity (see Kelvin Benjamin).
What's the Jags alternate course. Taking Trask in the back end of the first or second? Picking up a washed up free agent? Please...

Andrew Luck was a once in a generation QB and he didn't take Indianapolis to super bowls while other teams with less QB talent but more other talent went.
From that perspective it makes sense.
There are definitely teams that are in a position, like Seattle was, to take a first contract very good QB and surround him with enough talent to be really good.
Jacksonville may not be in that position.

First of all Favre is a Jets fan he played there. So I am betting this is tongue in cheek. That being said, taking nothing against Freeman. He is a hella player but he is tiny.. I just don't think he can hold up. I remember Desean Jackson tore it up for a few years then his body just couldn't hold up and he and Freeman are about the same size.. If you want a Clemson example look at Andre Ellington hell of a running back hell of a football player that just was not big enough to hold up to the pounding he had to take in the NFL.
On second thought it is preposterous to take any WR over Trevor.. look what DW4 did with a slim receiver core this year..
