coot writer thinks they have good shot at Dakereon Joyner

Jun 16, 2016, 12:06 PM

"One big-time prospect that it seem the Gamecocks have made some headway with is 2018 5-star quarterback Dakereon Joyner of Fort Dorchester High School. Joyner is one of the most coveted athletes in the 2018 class nationwide and was long considered a strong lean to Clemson before the staff change at South Carolina last fall. However, since that time, Will Muschamp and the new staff have gone out of their way to rebuild connections with Joyner.

Those efforts seem to be paying dividends. There is some traction of Joyner trending South Carolina's way in recent days, which is an astounding accomplishment when considering where the Gamecocks stood with him just six months ago. Joyner has made multiple visits to Columbia and seems very receptive to what the program has to offer. In addition, South Carolina has made it very clear to him that they view him as a quarterback at the next level and are recruiting him as such, which is something some schools have not yet agreed to with him.

Joyner sees himself as quarterback and wants to play quarterback at the next level, so these developments are just another big step in the right direction for the Gamecocks. While no commitment is imminent and there is still a long way to go in his recruitment, Joyner is one of several can't-miss in-state prospects in the 2018 cycle. Landing him would send a message both in-state and nationally that the Gamecocks are on their way back, as well as solidify the quarterback position at South Carolina for the foreseeable future."

If he is even really considering that heap when they finish their dismal season he would reconsider

We honestly may be losing ground with him right now, because I think our main two prospects we would like to land are Lawrence or Jones - and they are just better QBs honestly. However, I remember reading he isn't committing till June of next year, Lawrence and Jones should be making their decisions pretty soon. Joyner has said he wants to play immediately wherever he goes, I just don't see that happening at Clemson. However, if the other two pass on us I could see us ratchet up intensity on him. He would be a great fit in Clemson's offense, great runner, good passer that really just needs some polishing up in that department.

Either way, wth would Scar be your second choice? They are terrible and will remain terrible for the foreseeable future. "On their way back" refers to their 3 11 win seasons they still won't shut up about, even though they actually accomplished nothing during that stretch. I'm sure ten years from now, we will still be hearing about the 5 win streak against us.

So they offered him as a QB... I'm sure that closed the deal

"Gamecocks are on their way back".... from where?

"On their way back " .

Did I skip the class where they taught that to get back to something you first had to have ever been there at all ?
Stoopid Coots . Even their writers are functionally mentarded .

Yea, that apparently stood out to both of us...+1.***

they belong. Below .500 with a couple wins over scrubs and losses to Division 1-AA teams.

Mostly it sends a message that they want to let him play quarterback, while other schools (Clemson) might prefer him at another position. If he is going to be a qb at USC, then good luck against the qb's at Clemson. All in all , the kid would rather be at Clemson.

If indeed a 5 Star QB, why would anyone consider playing...

Jun 16, 2016, 2:32 PM

him somewhere else?

If he didn't come to Clemson, which is the most likely scenario, there are BETTER schools that will be more attractive than that garbage dump down in Cootlumbia.

With or without him, we are fine at QB for the foreseeable..

Clemson won't get every in-state recruit, but USuck will clearly need more than just a good QB and WR to compete against the SEC and ACC opponents. I really believe Clemson has better talent considering the school, but some have to look at the big picture to understand how they fit for their future.

Go Tigers!

Jun 16, 2016, 3:24 PM

Joyner will come to Clemson unless he fears that the competition is too strong at quarterback. If we can land Trevor Lawrence, Joyner may look elsewhere, but I really don't see him "settling" for usuck.

I think most see him as a QB***

Wasn't Deon Cain a 5 star forme QB?

Jun 16, 2016, 3:42 PM

Ray Ray a 5 star RB/QB ?

They changed positions cause they saw Clemson in their future.

They allowed Joyner to work with the rest of the Superstar QB's at camp,so he knows how he fits in. If Clemson is where he wants to be, he knows he's athletic enough to switch positions and contribute to a strong Clemson team.

If QB is where he just has to play and Clemson doesn't see him there, I don't see him winding up at USuC.Right. Now all USuC is is a lick and a promise. By the time he's ready to commit, they'll have a full season of failure under Chump completed. He'll go elsewhere.

Re: Wasn't Deon Cain a 5 star forme QB?

Jun 16, 2016, 4:03 PM

Yep, Cain was a former quarterback. Ty Hill was a RB. McClain was a TE. Beasley was a TE. Gallman played a lot of LB in high school. They all switched positions and excelled after the switch. Bryan Edwards out of Conway found out he wasn't being recruited for WR at Clemson, so he "settled" for usuck. Joyner's progress will be closely watched the next two years to see how he progresses. Will be fun to watch.

Re: Wasn't Deon Cain a 5 star forme QB?

Jun 16, 2016, 5:08 PM

Deon was a 4 star QB and he was the #2 WR in that class. He knew he had no chance to start at QB at this level so he went to all the camps as a WR and he flourished.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Joyner worked with the top level QB's at camp.

Jun 16, 2016, 5:11 PM

Next year, he may well be working with the WR's when he attends camp.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

John Simpson is our ace in the hole for Joyner

Jun 16, 2016, 3:44 PM

Those 2 are pretty much brothers. The only way I see him going elsewhere is if he's dead set on playing QB and we want him to change positions. In my opinion he's a solid 4 star QB but probably a 5 star athlete.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I would like someone to post where he is a 5 star....

Jun 16, 2016, 3:59 PM

Also those Gamecocks spin a good story don't they? The only reason and mark this, bookmark it, circle it with a sharpie whatever you have to do the ONLY reason ONLY REASON the Gamecocks even have a shot is that they are so desperate to get any type of kid they are willing to tell a kid they will solely only consider him for QB. Its obvious just ask Hood or anyone at these camps Joyner has a ways to go to be a big time college QB thats why Clemson isn't promising him a QB position. No Clemson is telling this kid the truth that QB may not be the best option if you have dreams of playing in the NFL or seeing the field at Clemson and not saying Joyner can't one day but he is much farther off than the QB's at this camp. If he is dead set on playing QB I wouldn't get overly excited about him coming to Clemson as a Clemson fan. All Clemson is telling Joyner is to continue what he is doing and they are evaluating him through his senior year. But I don't know who wrote this story but I do know Gamecock writers are all about over selling the Gamecocks chance's at everything they do and I can tell them that Joyner is no closer to committing to the Gamecocks than he is to Clemson. Just some Gamecock pumper BS.....

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I haven't seen him listed as a 5-star...

Jun 16, 2016, 4:58 PM

but I also haven't seen his skills as a QB questioned, either. A lot of people think he's underrated as an early 4-star. He may not be on Trevor Lawrence's or Hunter Johnson's level just yet, but very few are. I think he'd be a great take at QB for Clemson if they can't get Lawrence, and he may make a little more sense for us with another 5-star guy in the class ahead of Joyner/ Lawrence.
