Contributors to defense concerns

Goodson and Boulevard never get a sub and are getting run down. This is a lot of pounding on a body and they need a break. O'Daniel should have played more against option yesterday. I love DJ Reader, but his return in midseason changed the chemistry of the defense.

Don't understand why O'Daniel didn't play more, based on how well he played against GT.

Never thought about it but we do need to give those 2 a break our back ups can't be that bad?

I love our LB's but they are either not playing disciplined or are following the rush scheme Venables is calling. The LB's end up standing in the back field while the RB or QB is 3 yards past them. Somebody has to stay home to cover the run. Imagine Derrick Henry or Fournette running against the over pursuit we have shown in the last few games. We have to figure out where the disconnect is and fix it. Which I am confident our guys can do!

Go Tigers!!!

Boulware not playing with enough discipline against the run. On read plays he is playing the QB every time and is out of position after the QB hands the ball off. It's happened a few games in a row, but it's fixable--he wasn't doing it earlier in the season.

The other thing I noticed yesterday was that we frequently tried to hit people, but rarely wrapped them up for a tackle. I'm sure BV will work em on this too, that's just fundamental.

Reeder?

I agree with you - except for Miami, defense has regressed since Reeder's return.

I really like Boulware, but....

he is so aggressive that he winds up out of position and out of the play WAY too often as of late. I think opposing teams are seeing this and playing for exactly that. Look at the last couple of games as perfect examples. I think the reason is he needs the reckless abandon to overcome being a step slow for this level.

I feel that Venables will get this in check, but needs to be worked on before u$uc and of course, UNC.

Go Tigers!
