You wanted to become NFL AAA affiliate. Well, with the introduction of the transfer portal, you have removed the last barrier. And, with states enacting NIL, you don't even have to worry about paying them. What a great deal for you. You are now a professional league and you don't have to pay your players. Congrats.
For those of you wondering what I'm talking about, Caleb Williams entered the transfer portal. And, he and his dad are very open about the reason.
Quote: “I think we all come to college to find our own path and prepare for the future. I came to Oklahoma with a game plan, but with all of the recent changes, I need to figure out what is the right path for me moving forward.
“According to NCAA rules, as a student-athlete, the only way I can speak with other schools and see who may offer the best preparation and development for my future career is by entering the portal.”
And, lest there be any doubt what this means, his dad cleared it up in a tweet (paraphrased). "Caleb wants his future to be in the NFL and he wants to find the place that prepares him the best for that future."
Jeff Lebby will have to recruit him, just like Every other HC/OC will have to. He is an unrestricted free agent.

Here's hoping he finds a new home that will allow all the credit hours he earned while at OK to transfer so he won't have to repeat any classes.

assuming he transfers, which is certain.
Twice in one month OU sends an earthquake to shake college football.
I will be very surprised if he doesn't follow Lincoln Riley to USC. That must be his plan.

This is strictly business and I if Oklahoma presents a great NIL / Cash offer, he stays.

NIL is pocket change compared to an NFL rookie contract. This is about maximizing his long-term earnings potential (getting the highest draft position in 2024).
I think his plan is to follow Lincoln Riley to USC.

Riley does have a great track record of putting QB’s in the first round.

Doesn't CLR have the recruit that originally was committed to OU?...
That doesn't make sense...

Exactly what I was thinking! Southern Cal has a really good QB inbound already!
I know Caleb hasn't committed to Southern Cal yet; but that would be a bit crazy!
He might find himself in the same shoes he put Spencer Rattler in!
Some new to the system guy comes in and is better and places you on the bench; even though you are a Heisman candidate.
I think OP was getting at them wanting some NIL money; and I concur. Seems to be the most likely scenario. Who is out there putting QB after QB in the NFL? Riley, right?
Who else? Maybe he thinks he can come to Clemson and compete, LOL!
Not be given; but compete for the job!

So, when is the NFL going to start paying their fair share to the universities for the free education, housing, and expert training that costs a fortune for their minor league athletes? This is all BS.

Right track, wrong question. When is some high schooler going to sue the NFL for age discrimination and topple system that made this happen.

A 18-20 yo have to know that they are not physically strong enough to play in the NFL... yet...

Very well could be true. That said, the NFL does not have the right to deny employment based on age.

Not exactly. The reason they can do it is that they are collectively bargained. Still, that is not a situation that is set in stone.

Do they base it on age though? I’ve only seen the rule require 3 years after high school. I don’t see how it’s any different from any job that requires a certain amount of experience to qualify.

Maybe let sec become semi pro and remaining schools actually preserve student athlete concept? If I want pro football, I'll watch NFL. The games and teams are more evenly matched anyway. Add in some marching bands and we are set.

Not a bad idea actually. Let the SEC go be that super conference they want to be, and pay players and all that mess. Let everyone else go back to being college sports. Bonus of 2 national championships games each year.
