NFL.com projection says not to expect much from this rookie Tiger

Travis Etienne's offseason since a first-round selection has been a tad unusual, and some different factors could hold him back from a breakout rookie campaign according to one outlet Out of the gates, new coach Urban Meyer has been trying to find alternate ways to get him the ball, working him out Read Update »

It really seems that no one was paying close attention to how the Jags got to be the NFL team with the 1st pick of the 2021 draft. The Jags won their 1st game of the season, then lost 6 straight up to their off week. And it was clear that after their off week, the Jags aim was for that #1 pick, and they done absolutely nothing to hurt themselves in the race for the #1 pick against the Jets that at the time was thought to be the team to get TL16 as the 1st pick of the draft until they slipped up and won 2 of their last 3 games of the season games that took them out of the running for the #1 draft pick and handed it right over to the Jags!!!!

So I really don't see how a team that was bad the first half of the season, then plans to lose the rest of the games going after the #1 pick, along with other good picking slots, how can they be judged for what they will do the next season when they were totally awful the previous season mostly by choice....

Seems they are just predicting Travis' FF value. They seems to have a pretty solid second year RB and other serviceable backs with a suspect offensive line. I would agree that at this point of the year the expectations for Travis should be kept in check as well.

For me personally, I was taught growing up, if you really don't know about somebody, it's best to say nothing about them, than to say something just to be talking, and make an A$$ out of yourself!!!

That’s fair advice for personal relationships, but this journalist is paid to write about his opinion. Agree with it or not, it is their prerogative and right to publish and capitalize on it.

most people have had since the pick was announced: Why did UM draft Travis if they don't plan to use him extensively?

Last time I checked, 1st rounders (except QBs sometimes) are expected to make a big impact during rookie seasons. Not all do but the expectation is they will.

This is the summer bullship season particularly as applies to FF. I like ETN's chances to have a solid rookie season for these reasons:

1) Meyer has skin in the game for ETN to succeed, and IMHO will give last year's solid starter the bulk of the early snaps as the O-line gels or fails to gel.
2) That ETN and TL16 magic will surface soon and often.
3) As mentioned many times, despite playing with little inside blocking last year, ETN really developed his hands as he picked up the passing game. That was the key for Meyer.
4) Rookie backs put it all on the line. Look for Travis to run with healthy fear and abandon as the NFL big boys come for him. That will create an adrenaline rush, and Travis can handle it.

It's fair to question ETN's touches but not his talent. TL16 knows his number. Go Jags! Go Tigers!
