Concerning Brownell, just have to vent. What is the

Mar 1, 2018, 6:44 PM

problem with at least half the Tiger posters? For the last several years I have seen “Fire Brad” posts after each loss. Then this year we beat Ohio State away but they gave him no credit. However, after we loss a game soon after, the “experts” started criticizing him immediately.

Even after some of our good wins recently, the arm chair analysis experts come on and say things that Brad should have done.

I end this vent with two comments: Brad knows a heck of more about basketball than you do. Secondly, our Athletic Director knows what he is doing.

Flame away if you feel like you must, and I expect you to. Otherwise, give the guy credit.

The only game I had a problem with Brownell this year was our 1st loss vs Temple. Other than that it's on the players

It's not an argument I have posted about but my best guess is he has no bank account. I remember a FB player getting in trouble a couple years ago and getting an easy second chance because he had "money in his account" from a history of good behavior.

If we make the dance this year and maybe get to the Sweet Sixteen, then next year the squawking after losses should ease up.

But there might be another problem at work here and that's his lack of charisma. He is not exactly a hale-fellow-well-met and many (probably myself included) think a more dynamic individual might have landed a certain recruit we just missed on. We tend to remember Dabo was able to land big fish when he was selling all sizzle with no actual steak involved and expecting the same out of Brownell might be a stretch.

He has to rely more on evaluations and this year, minus the injuries, might have shown you can win big that way. Still might. But even so, it's just not the splashy way we've so quickly gotten used to in football.

Not sure how Brownell’s “lack of charisma”

Mar 1, 2018, 7:34 PM

would lead obvious unnamed recruit to the waiting arms of Coach K. Not exactly the first person I think of when thinking of charismatic fellows. Now if you said uppity, entitled, too-good-to-give-halftime-interviews, then I would agree. Id says coach K’s resume had more to do with it

In hearing interviews that Brownell gives, as well as seeing him on campus in my time there he seemed like a very personable, charismatic guy.

I listened to the interview after the FSU game, and I am so proud he's ours. What a classy interview he gave, and I dare say he does more with less than anybody in our conference (maybe the country). Also, I am so proud when I listen to him speak and answer the reporter's questions. Such great educated responses that he could even pass for a Clemson Graduate. We are very blessed to have him, Dabo, Larry Pendley and Monte Lee, and others I can't recall right now. We have come a long way, baby!

For the royal spectator -
there is no room for coaches mistakes (spectators makes no mistakes nor will he allow for mistakes).
There no room for building a program (the program owes him perfection).
Coach must please such a fan, if not, off with his head.
Coach should beat all opposition even if the opposition has a royal spectator of their own.
There is no point of satisfaction for the royal spectator.10 National championships in a row would only end in disappointment if his team lost in the final four.

When you don't go to the tourney for over 5 years people have a right to complain IMo. I like Brownell but last year i was starting to give up. Losing close games is on the coach as much if not more than on the players. This year tho we are winning the close games and that had a lot to do with coach. Ofcourse he knows more than anybody on here about basketball but that does not mean he always makes the right decisions. I have said nothing but good things about him this year and most of the years before last. He is a great man and we are lucky to have him but I understand why people get upset with him.

Tiger basketball has been digging out of a hole that is 60 years deep. Historically, we never cared about basketball. We only started to care when the Cluckers brought down Frank Maguire and started winning. When I was at Clemson 50 years ago, our best player had one lung - and that was he truth!

Since then, we had some good coaches and good teams but have not been consistently good. Ten years ago, some jerk wrote that Clemson was one of the worst five schools in the country for basketball - and he threw in Clemson football for good measure. Coach Oliver Purnell helped us, but maybe he gave up toward the end of his tenure. His success did provide the opportunity to recruit another good coach, so we are fortunate to have Coach Brownell.

Have things been great, the past five to seven years? No, they haven't, but with the LJ renovation and an emphasis on all non-football sports, we are seeing improvement. Let's see where this leads. If we can bring in some strong talent the next couple of years, maybe we can have a solid program. I am proud of this year's team. They play hard and play together. I have to scratch my head from time-to-time with some of their turnovers, but other than that they looked coached. Don't give up on this team or our coach.
