They had plenty of evidence and just cause to fire him back then and imagine if Rutgers lawyers were utilized they would have said the same.

attorneys that work directly for the state or acting as the state's agent.

there was a suspension. mandatory? now a firing. i'm not sure how many steps were required in the between.

rice has a representative and a contract. it is in rice's best interest to make sure each and every aspect of that process was followed for numerous reasons.

sounds like a process to me so i'll stick with my original statement.
