College football headed for a reckoning?

Jan 10, 2022, 5:08 PM

The get in price for tonight is $450. The get in price for the super bowl is $8500.

A lot more mouths to feed in college football and more coming to the trough. It appears that the players will soon be playing for the pleasure of a few large donors.

Don't let anyone fool you, it'll be a while before this is figured out. College administrators know nothing about economics other than they like getting big paychecks for doing nothing. So they're going to do a lot of things wrong before Alabama wins 10 more championships and they won't be able to get people to attend the CFP championship even if Red Panda is performing at halftime.

The prices are lower than last year because they are in Indy they will be 2k a ticket next year in Los Angeles who the game is played at that new SoFi Stadium, which is supposed to be by far the nicest stadium in all of sports. The weather will be beautiful too.

Won't even be a factor. If it's Alabama vs Ohio State or Clemson vs Ohio State it will be 2k a ticket.

It's because it will be a trendy spot. There will be wealthy celebrities and athletes at that game just to go. It's a really trendy stadium. It's a place too be seen. You add up to all of the fans of both teams fans going to a nice warm spot, it's going to be wild. I hope we're there. I will be going.

The going rate for CFP championship tickets next year...

Jan 10, 2022, 5:18 PM [ in reply to Re: College football headed for a reckoning? ]

will be determined largely by which two teams are playing.

When Clemson played Bama in Santa Clara, there were plenty of tickets available below face value. It's a long way to travel, it's an expensive trip, and it televised which keeps a lot of people at home. Next year will be no different especially if two team on the east coast are playing.

Tampa was a little different. It was close enough so most people could drive and only spend one night. Because of that, tickets were much harder to come by so prices were through the roof.

Yea not a good venue if the Tigers make it. Arizona was packed because it was the first one since 81, but the stadium in LA does look awesome on tv. Can’t imagine hotel, food, and gas prices in Cali though. 4.65 gallon on average for fuel as of today. Do not see any west coast teams on the horizon making it next year unless USC is all of a sudden loaded.

True, but the two teams will be big time teams. That's already going to be a given. It will be nothing like anything you've seen.

I actually bought 2 from Alabama’s athletic department for the one in Tampa. They could not even sell all their tickets. I believe I paid 450 a ticket.

"Covid masks" will probably be $200 each.

There is a world of difference between the NFL and the NCAA and you cannot even compare the two. If there were no fans in the stadium tonight, the payout would be the same because TV money is what pays the bills.

Another issue for the championship game is that kids are in school. Back in my day, the national championship game was always played on New Years Eve or New Years Day when the kids were on Christmas break. It was also played in Florida or New Orleans...actual places that are more affordable than traveling across the country!

I really don’t get the whole dragged out process of getting this game played. Season has been over since the last week in November and the first week in December for conf championships.
