New Story: Heightened Sense of Urgency

Heightened Sense of Urgency

Brent Venables doesn’t see the departure of defensive tackle D.J. Reader as a challenge. He sees it as an opportunity for younger players to get a chance to play. Along with that comes a heightened sense of urgency as the season approaches. Full Story »

It all sounds good now but we don't want to hear the we are young excuses this season. If Clemson ever wants to be a contender the O and the D have to be good in the same year.
It's getting old that one is good and one is bad every year.

It sure was nice last season, knowing when the D is on the field we were in good hands.

100% agree, it is great to have Venables on our team. He's a true thoroughbred. It's easy to see why Boulware loves him so much. Bond between a coach and player can be very strong. I still love my highschool coach and I played in '73.

Go Tigers!

Coach V...so dang smart! He gets it!

Aug 27, 2015, 7:20 PM

I love him using and doing the "put them in a position to be successful"! I don't care if you have all 5 star seniors! Everyone has a weakness. You coach around it to their strengths! Prime example was Coach Streeter and Cole Stout last year. Don't ask a guy to do something he will not succeed at. Coach him and help him be successful. It breeds success! Love Coach V! I would play for him if I wasn't so old! Lol! Hard to coach around age.

Coaching around old age would be a total failure. Coaching to the old age would be the best. It would show that you should find some youth in a hurry!!!

His tone and body language...

Aug 27, 2015, 9:12 PM

suggest that he's not worried at all about losing DJ. It makes me feel better about it at least.

Re: His tone and body language...

We're starting to reap the benefits of stellar recruiting over the last couple years. Depth is one thing...quality depth is another. The overall talent level of our team has been bumped up, and younger guys are able to step in and play at the same level as our veterans. These kids aren't projects. They're ready to play, so I'm not worried either. I've always been a fan of DJ Reader and I've always thought he's a talented player. But he's no Christian Wilkins in terms of pure talent. This was going to be Reader's big year.

I just can't see BV being overly excited about anything until he is on the side lines coaching in a live game. The get back guy is there for a very good reason, an overly excited BV!!!
