Coach Howard always felt Fred Cone was his best overall player, a guy

Most of us on TN never heard of Fred (I saw 50's film of him plus read about him) but to show how powerful a runner he was, The Late NOW as of today great Jerry Clower use to do a comical dialogue about how Fred ran over him in a game when Miss St & Clemson played!

Coach Howard wrote that Billy Hair was the most gifted and best all around player that ever played for him. Though they had a contentious relationship because Hair was uber religious and threaten to leave the team once because of Coach Howard's language. Billy was a very close friend of my father's.
