Clif wrote the occasional article for Tiger Insider back in the day. Graduated in '84 and taught English at Clemson in the late '80's. I called him the poet laureate of Byron, GA. He had Chester McGlockton in his class when he was a professor. For you young fellas, Chester was even big by modern standards, going about 6'3", 335, playing 6 NFL seasons and making 4 Pro Bowls. On his big days, Clif went about 5'6", 170. Chester left class early twice in a row and Clif met him in the doorway for the next class. He told Chester if he left early again not to come back because he would fail him. Chester left 20 minutes in. Clif called the academic advisor and told him they needed to move Chester to another class and why. The advisor told Clif to sit tight. Next class, Chester shows up grinning and walks up to Clif at the lectern. Chester apologizes and says it won't happen again. Then he tells Clif he got called to Danny Ford's office. Ford doesn't say a word. Dials the phone and waits for an answer. He then hands the phone to Chester and says, "Tell your mama what's going on in your English class." Chester never missed class again. Clif was a true original who once made the Baltimore Sun when he painted a massive Orioles O on the side of his house to honor his beloved Orioles' long-awaited return to the MLB playoffs. He passed after a long bout with diffuse scleroderma. He was funny as hell to the end.

Scleroderma hardens your skin

Diffuse scleroderma does that to your skin and major organs. It's a brutal disease but he fought it until the end, refusing hospice.
