Clemson's Fire Marshal - @David Hood Please interview him.

I keep hearing this excuse that the Fire Marshal is the reason that the Hill is no longer full. If that is the case, someone needs to interview this guy so everyone can have a better understanding why.
How is it that I can sit butt to butt with thousands of people in the stands but you cant get more than 1,000 on the hill prior to the team running down?
If its a student issue and they aren't getting there early enough then take the dang tickets away from the students. Make it general admission again.
I also notice there is only ONE freakin point of entry. You're telling me we can't have two other openings on either side of the fence to allow more students in quickly? I saw students jumping over trying to get on the hill for Furman.
Its embarrassing. And it also looks like the Administration is going to use this as an excuse to monetize it and put in seating. For all we know, they're using the Fire Marshal excuse to make this happen.
THERE NEEDS TO BE ANSWERS! THERE NEEDS TO BE BETTER SOLUTIONS! One of our greatest traditions has been completely ruined. #FilltheHill

Please, when have we had a standing room crowd? If the weather is good, judge the hill by the crowd for State next week. By the way, if people are so concerned about the hill they can leave their seats and stand on the hill. It is not that much fun.

seasons. So its easy to say it hasn't been full in a long time.
So at the very least, we go back to general admission. The Hill was full back then.

That's the point you can't just go to the hill if you want

They have it restricted to one point of entry and you must show a hill ticket to gain access. For what ever reason they have it locked down now and that's probably what is causing it to be so sparsely populated.

It would seem to me that the fire marshal

would prefer more entry/exit points for the hill, rather than fewer.
Was the stadium reconfigured prior to the fire marshal allowing fewer people on the hill? If so, then blaming the fire marshal isn't fair, and Clemson is to blame since the fire marshal was merely reacting to a change in the entry/exit points in the stadium.

How easy would it be for Clemson to create more points of entry and exits! Seems that would be more safe.
Again, looks to me as Clemson admin wants to create the problem to fix it by adding seating and selling more season tickets. BOOOOOOO!!

Why would the Fire Marshall care or have jurisdiction over an outdoor space? What exactly is flammable on the hill which would invoke the interest of the FM? In he event of an emergency the folks on the hill would simply run onto the field to get away if they could not exit through the gate under the scoreboard. If the FM is the limiting factor it seems like an overreach at best.

Thinking the term “Fire” Marshall covers way more emergency

situations than just fires.
Bomb threats, lightening, tornado warnings ... anything where occupants of a facility might need to gain rapid egress would probably be under Fire Marshall jurisdiction.
I guess I could be wrong, but it sure makes sense.

It seems to me in an emergency those on a full hill would be in a safer position than those sitting in actual sections.

with a capacity as large as Death Valley. That includes horse races, auto-races, concerts, sporting events, etc.). All of those types of places have electrical service for lighting/electronics and food service hazards including sterno warmers, food warming, cooking units, and concessions (e.g.; seating areas, skybox and luxury suite areas).

I get your point but how in the H E double hockey sticks does the number of people on the hill have anything to do with safety? The risk of life or injury does not go up or down based on the number of people standing on the hill. The risk to their safety is much less than for those in the upper decks regardless of what threat arises. Can you imagine trying to evacuate the upper decks in the event of any type of threat? The steepness of the steps combined with the limited number of egress points would make it a nightmare. The folks on the hill, regardless of the number of people, are many times safer than the fans with a great view of Lake Hartwell.

I cannot find any video, article, or interview with the Clemson Fire Marshal that provides any discussion of the Hill and it's limitations. The only thing that is out there is from an old Dabo press conference where he said he thought the Hill issue might be a "Fire Marshal" thing.

Amazingly, no reporter has ever bothered to interview the Clemson Fire department and get to the actual facts of this...

The first “Bowden Bowl” maybe? I forget.
But ... after that one game we’ve never come close to that record attendance again ... supposedly because of a “Fire Marshall” ruling.

At some point, I read that two more exits were supposed to be added with our current upgrades. Apparently, it did not happen.

Frustrating for an issue to continue to exist year after year and no one at the University can implement a solution to fix the problem. It is either incompetence or intentional. My guess is it is intentional given the obvious fixes.
I miss the days when we worried about the ending the balloon launch.

There may be laws which apply to GA that we didn't used to have. Somebody gets crushed at a rock show about once a decade.
