were ranked by team on 24/7 and they had us coming in at #36. We were seventh in the ACC. That surprised me and I feel like we had some great additions to the team. Brownell did a great job. But still it feels like we are not gaining on the other teams. Not a flame on Brownell or basketball, so don't get offended.

I agree. Was shocked to see that. It feels like with all the posts/press and accolades by tigernet press, we'd be in the top 20 and near the top of the acc's.

Brad is Brad. We know exactly what he is going to do. Which is be a borderline bubble team that isn’t quite good enough 70% of the time, be outright bad 10% of the time, be just good enough to make the tourney 15% of the time, and good enough to win a game or two in the round of 64 or better 5% of the time. That’s it - that’s what we will get over whatever amount of time we keep him. Therefore it’s no surprise that even after all the fawning over his use of the transfer portal what we have amounts to a bubble team. Will it be part of the 70% that falls just short or the 20% that slips in? That’s it - that is the question. And it is the only question there will ever be as long as he is coach.

All of this rah rah over getting used players from the portal doesn’t change the fact, proven over 13 years, that we do not have a top notch coach. Until we upgrade the coach we will continue to be mired in sub-mediocrity.

(Clemson sites) and only see kool aid articles. Than they get mad when some Clemson fans question Brad Brownell or Dabo not taking transfer or Dabo’s recent promotions from within.
“How dare you question recruiting or our offensive line woes”
The fact is, even with the amazing Riley hire we still have multiple coaches on our football staff that aren’t qualified YET( they’re learning on the job).

I agree with your statement. I still think Austin was a good hire and I think Goodwin will find his way. Spiller and Grisham, they have not shown their potential yet for me anyways.

There’s a big difference in being critical of BB and Dabo. One is a two time national champion, 8 time conference champ and a top three coach in college football. Now there’s nothing wrong with questioning because I question some of his choices but I still trust his judgment overall.
I have zero faith in BB.

Hard to question a man who has done what Dabo has. We will never see a coach like him or have a run like we did again most likely. Well, at least not in my life-time. I am fine with that too.
I kinda feel like that supremely elite Clemson teams from the recent past are gone. We simply don't have the staying power that an Alabama, Ohio State, or a Georgia does. Possibly its complacency, the dollars of the SEC/BIG10, or coaches are in a Clemson bubble. Maybe it's a combination of all of those things.
My mindset is to be happy with the run and if Dabo can get us flying close to the sun again, great. If he can't well that's ok too. Just keep beating the chickens please.
Brownell hasn't even earned the respect of the fanbase and those two should never be mentioned in the same breath.

Good points. I too think we have been surpassed in football. Basketball obviously isnt important to bod, prez, or ad.

By my count we are 6th in the ACC in transfer recruiting ranking. Also we recruited based on need. For example we likely weren't going to get a 4* center because we were trying to recruit a back up. Also one of our transfer recruits was not rated and is expected to redshirt this year. I think heidbreder was a good pick up, but we don't really need him this year.
Clemson - 4 players recruited in portal. 2 4*, 1 3*, and 1 NR
NC State - 5 players recruited in the portal. 3 4* and 2 3*
UVA - 4 players recruited in the portal. 2 4* and 2 3*
UNC - 4 players recruited in portal. 3 4* and 1 3*
Louisville - 3 players recruited in the portal. 2 4* and 1 3*
Syracuse - 2 players recruited in the portal. 2 4*

As I stated in my post, I am going off of 24/7 rankings. I think Brownell and company did a great job at recruiting transfers. I am behind Brownell because he is our coach at least one more year. I was surprised that with the quality of players we got, we still were 7th in the ACC and 36th overall. I understand it is by what we need. There are only 5 positions in basketball, and we added players that fit almost all those categories, correct?

Yep you are correct, I did miss GT.
They have 7 incoming recruits in the portal. Wow! They are going to be highly ranked just based on volume. I guess that's what happens when half your team transfers out.
I would take our team going into next year over all teams ranked ahead of us except for maybe UNC and UVA.
Did you see Miami's recruiting? Has the NIL well run dry for basketball?

If one of the players is going to redshirt, to include his numbers in the class rankings inflate the projected impact that the transfers will have on this season's team. I guess you don't exclude his numbers until the redshirt is announced. But you get where I'm coming from.

Yes it is and honestly the portal rankings are silly as well. The majority of the people transferring have done little where they at and leaving and living on their unfulfilled potential
