typically spent more than their expense allowance on those trips so the real $ comes from the 60-80 million that goes back to the conf which is regardless of whether you send a team or not- Clemson/Duke get basically the same thing at the end of the day and that # is not really different if they league sends a team or not.

Without Clemson ACC wouldn't get $$ from Semis and Final. If your conf doesn't send a team it doesn't get $$. Clemson is only team other than ND (sometimes) that earns the conf $$ from playoff bowl $$

, the Semi $ outside expenses goes to the conf. Divide that by 14 and let me know what that # is- it's hardly anything. The CFP is owned by the conferences. The revenue other that the $6 mil or whatever that is paid for making the semi is split with the P5 + 1 group of 5 share + ND. That nets the conference 60-80 mil whether a team goes or not. That $ is the split between the ACC teams. That is where the $ is made, not from actually being selected for the game. Clemson has lost $ when they have gone to Phoenix based on how much they were paid for making the semi vs. how much they actually spent. However, Clemson still got their share of the conferences 60-80 mil for the ACC being a P5 conf. That $ is paid out at then end. It's not that hard to figure out. Its like how TV $ is made and shared. Many other bowl games are more lucrative straight $ wise(think Peach, Sugar, Cotton non-playoff games) than the Playoffs as the Conference gets their playoff cut regardless for being one of the "owners" of the system.

ACC isn’t a power five conference. Example, we are down this year and ACC has no shot at CFP. Not even close.

At least not at this juncture. If they did, they would have asked and our admin would have jumped all over it.

SEC is the only logical option. We could theoretically try to join the revamped Big 12 but that would be a lateral move IMO. Big 10 ain't calling and that would be an awkward fit anyway.
