Nov 30, 2016, 9:57 PM [ in reply to Re: FB Update: Swinney sends plea to Clemson fans about ACC title game ]

I bought tickets as soon as they went on sale, but I cannot go to Orlando because of work.

It is a shame that 2 programs roughly 2 hours from CLT now have to go to Orlando because of political BS.

Re: I live 20 minutes away from BOA stadium

Nov 30, 2016, 10:04 PM

Agreed. Disappointed that the schools and coaches unilaterally bought into the NCAA's latest politically correct manifesto. Wish we had more backbone, but more than likely this part of Obama's agenda will go the way of the Dodo bird. (Compared to Obama's executive order on this issue, I feel sympathy for the Dodo.)

Sorry I can't make if to Orlando, but Go Tigers!

Lol Obama's agenda? This is bigger than a president - it's about basic human rights.

Let's support our persecuted friends in NC by showing up in force to Orlando!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Persecuted friends? Are you serious? Trans Phobia?

Dec 1, 2016, 9:22 AM

Dude you have this so wrong, first of all until this game got moved causing me to miss it I could not have cared less about this bathroom issue. I could care less about peoples sexual preferences or their desire for attire if you know what I mean. Now though the issue has had an impact on my life I feel compelled to take a side in the issue. Congratulations perverts you now have an otherwise neutral person pissed at you.

Re: Persecuted friends? Are you serious? Trans Phobia?

How does a football game being held in any town ever get tied up with a bill being considered by politicians? The folks who tied the two are the problem. I agree with you that I don't care two whiffs about the bathroom deal but some have made it their mission in life to disrupt others lives in an attempt to push a political agenda..hold them hostage in other words...it's ridiculous that on a site set up for following anything sports concerning Clemson we are talking about politics. The two should never meet. Go Tigers!

Re: I live 20 minutes away from BOA stadium

Dec 1, 2016, 5:48 PM [ in reply to Re: I live 20 minutes away from BOA stadium ]

Deciding which bathroom to p*ss in based on what gender you chose to be on any particular day isn't "about human rights".

It's about mentally deranged people with severe emotional issues and the liberals that find anything not "totally accepted" by society as obscenely offensive.

Obama's agenda? Most likely. It was a federal law that NC refused to acknowledge. I stand behind them and will not be going to Orlando just so the left coast President of the ACC can feel "high and mighty" about his decision - hopefully, the ticket sales are so bad that they return the game to NC.

I am in a similar situation. Me and 3 of my family are going.

I will say one other thing. I bought mine via groupon @ $35/each. The tickets through Clemson were $150-$200. That is ridiculous.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Clemson is forced to sell the tickets at face value

Dec 1, 2016, 11:35 AM

thus artificially inflating the price. It's cheaper to buy through the stadium or stubhub because they face no such restrictions.

I would recommend going downtown. Lots of bars to choose from and easy in and out. The bars are mostly on Orange Ave a couple blocks East of I-4. There is a shuttle that runs from there to the stadium.

We respectfully disagree entirely on HB2 and who is to blame for the game's relocation. The fault is not with the NCAA, nor with the ACC.

Many have swallowed the thin veneer fed to you about what HB2 was about, allowing your sensibility to be played by conniving politicians who shoveled through an ill-thought, illegal bill based that was bound to fail upon legal inspection.

But because someone cynically told them this was a threat to our children, rather than spend the time to research what a specious, venal argument that is and conveniently ignoring the added wording that was really behind the bill's passage, they accepted it.

Oh, it's about the NC law that responded to "conniving politicians who shoveled through an ill-thought, illegal bill based [sic] that was bound to fail upon legal inspection" in Charlotte? Because it really seemed like you were talking about a city ordinance that would've allowed people to sue for not affirming transgender ideology, rather than a law that would've allowed private entities to do whatever they wanted while preserving the status quo sex separation in public spaces.

Dec 1, 2016, 12:17 AM

Please remember that our administration supported the decision to move the championship game. Unfortunately, political correctness is very much alive and well at Clemson.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nowadays, human rights & constitutional rights . . .

Dec 1, 2016, 1:01 AM

are routinely dismissed as "political correctness". We're truly living in dangerous times. Consider the gravity of this - N.C. has stripped its gay & transgender residents of all legal protections. Yet it's deemed an outrage for the NCAA, ACC & Clemson University to take a stand against this law?

That said, I've always been ambivalent about this whole boycott effort, because such boycotts are seldom effective in bringing about the political change they purport to seek, & they often provoke a backlash that does long-term damage to the cause. About the only thing boycotts are effective at is allowing certain people feel righteous. Moreover, boycotts are kind of like the political equivalent of chemotherapy - aimed at treating the cancer but causing great suffering for the entire body & only occasionally successful at eradication. Likewise, this boycott is ostensibly aimed at the state of N.C. for its anti-gay law, but in the end it's Charlotte - the city that tried to do the right thing for its LGBT residents only to be overruled by the N.C. General Assembly - that takes the brunt of the punishment.

In the end, there are no winners at all in this. Charlotte & the state of N.C. both lose the economic impact, the tax revenue & the TV exposure that this game would've brought. Clemson & Virginia Tech fans both lose - with both schools less than 3 hours' drive away, just imagine how hot these tickets would be right now if the game were still in Charlotte. The ACC loses too, because its football championship game, after struggling for years with poor attendance, has thrived in Charlotte, averaging just under 70,000 fans each game (2nd among all conference title games) & frequently selling out. No doubt about it - this game BELONGS in Charlotte. What has happened this past year fills me with sadness.

Yea, as someone who never has & never will live in North Carolina, I'm not an expert on HB2...but back when the game was originally stripped from NC, it took 5 minutes to discover that the bathroom issue was really just the tip of the iceberg and and extremely critical things--like allowing employers to legally discriminate based on race, sex, or religion--were passed by this bill.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Swinney sends plea to Clemson fans about ACC title game

Dec 1, 2016, 10:57 PM

There's just so much wrong with this post...

...first, as others have mentioned, there is so much more to the law which people are opposing. The law legalized employers' rights to discriminate based on race, sex, sexuality and religion...do you support that?

Even if you do support those things, your protest against the "left coast ACC" makes no sense. You're going to "Hit the ACC where the money is" by not going to the game...instead you'll be watching them on TV, thus supporting the ACC's main source of revenue: TV contracts.

You're essentially protesting AmBev by refusing to buy your normal 6 pack of Budweiser, and instead buy a 12 pack of Bud Light. Good job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Swinney sends plea to Clemson fans about ACC title game

Dec 2, 2016, 8:53 AM

There's nothing wrong with the post.

No law gives anyone the ability to discriminate based on any of those factors - NC is an "at will" state - private entities can do as they wish regarding transgender bathrooms or employment (as the bill breaches that as well).

You can call "firing" anyone that isn't a white male "discriminatory" if you like - we've been hearing that garbage for 8 years and I'm sure there isn't a person alive that hasn't been fired or laid off. Likewise, you can call anyone who doesn't want a trans-male-pervert pissing next to their 8 year daughter, "discriminatory" - I'm sure all women would love unisex bathrooms @ games where drunken men have peed all over the toilet seats as well.....why not?

The "left coast ACC" is derived from the fact that a menial percentage of people are put on a pedal stool above the majority in order to obtain some social justice award that negatively affects said majority attending the game and commerce of an entire city. If trans-people want to take a p*ss - who cares - let them - just keep your leftist "you should be ashamed of yourself" BS politics out of sports.

Hitting the ACC where the money is? Yup. Not attending the game will cost the ACC and the teams will lose money from ticket sales as well. Why does this not matter to me? Well, I already send thousands per year to Clemson for IPTAY - and I'll watch the game from my FREE ESPN app - which won't contribute to the ACC either. Last year I, and many others, attended the game in Charlotte and b/t tickets, hotel, meals, pre game festivities and menial extras, spent quite a bit of money that won't be circulated this year.

Your last statement makes absolutely not sense.

Good job.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In for two! :)

Dec 1, 2016, 6:16 AM

Regular season Clemson games are a 5+ hour trip. I still go.
This trip is about a 4 hour drive. The cheap ticket price and splitting the hotel room makes this less than the cost of a regular season game for me. Food and gas will be more expensive in Orlando, but there are ways to mitigate that.
People were trying to sell South Carolina game tickets for more than I will be spending on this trip. ?? To everybody crybabying over then moving the venue, get over it. Some of us regularly travel long distances to see them play. We don't just go because it's conveniently down the street.

Regarding that bill they passed, as a female, if a man feels transgendered and wants to use my bathroom, let him/her. At least he'd look the part. It's much more unnerving having a transgendered female who looks like a man waltz out of the stalls. Are we now going to further insult masculine-looking chicks by accusing them of being genetically a male? Nobody's doing a genitalia check. If a man is a creeper, he's going to be a creeper.

The ACC is responsible for any light crowds by Clemson or VT. It would have been set up as an epic crowd in Charlotte. Last year was awesome! 70/30 Clemson maybe more.

Second to that it just cost too much and decisions have to made as to how many of these games you can attend.

1. From north metro-Atlanta, Orlando is 9 hours. Just did it in September.
2. NC is much better for us, with friends/family support in Greenville.
3. Big Education has gone radical PC and forcing the tyranny of the minority on decisions which are still in court. Outrageous!
4. It would have been nice if TigerNet had written something like "proponents of Bill 2 are trying to protect the privacy & safety of children, especially little girls" ... right after the opponent's party line: "...protections based on sexual orientation and gender identity."
5. Move the game more to "center of mass" of the conference and back to NC, so fans can more easily attend.
6. Clemson: Please tell the NCAA & ACC that a significant number of us are not happy about current PC mindset and the way they are letting it impact negatively on collegiate sports, before it has been settled in court, elections & state legislatures.

Don't want to go to Florida - too far, too expensive
Don't want to spend the extra $$ - especially at this time of year
Don't appreciate HB2 and it's lingering effect
BUT WE'RE SO PROUD OF OUR TIGERS AND THE SEASON THEY'VE HAD - WE WANT THEM TO KNOW IT! ONLY DEATH WILL KEEP US FROM SUPPORTING OUR TEAM - WE'LL BE THERE!! GO TIGERS!

Shouldn't be having an ACCCG anyway!

Dec 1, 2016, 8:21 AM

We could be resting up like Ohio State this weekend!

Go Tigers AND Tiger Nation!

Please educate yourself before commenting on HB2.
I find it a bit ironic Charlotte of all places is getting the most punishment for a law they thoroughly opposed, but that's life.
That doesn't change that this law is terrible for any person, not just LGBT people, and was only passed through using the veil of perverts in bathrooms..

It's sad, I feel most know it's more than just the bathroom

issue but have such a disdain for the LGBT community they feign ignorance.

Only need to scroll up in this thread to see the overwhelming evidence of it.

I am not going. BofA Stadium is a private entity and.....

....and has said they support transgender folks using whatever bathroom they want. It gave the folks what they wanted but the NCAA and ACC had to "take a stand". Stupid. I had tickets through the Charlotte Sports Foundation. Cancelled!

Why isn't the ACC moving their offices out of Greensboro? Why aren't UNC, Duke, Wake Forest, and NC State not allowed to play in the league?

My first live game since Auburn! Been overseas for the balance of the season but excited that having landed less than 24 hrs ago, I'll be in Orlando in less than 24 more. Go Tigers. We'll be there!!

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Thanks to our idiodic conference I won't be there

Dec 1, 2016, 8:48 AM

I would love to go, but I just can't swing driving to Orlando, spending the night, and then driving back to SC. I would be all over this if it was still in Charlotte...easy day trip.

Yea sorry that stadium will be half empty. Staff should of spoke up when they were moving the game and said we aren't gonna play there, good reason to cancel the game and take a break like osu.

Two things that may be causing the low ticket sales

Dec 1, 2016, 10:22 AM

1. Sports needs to get out of politics. It is hurting the NFL and I believe now the ACCCG. I never liked the ban on SC having ACC games. I am tired of it and will not help them punish NC. I may go to Charlotte for the weekend and spend my money there.

2. Last year I went on all the events and as the credit card bills hit it was time to send my IPTAY donation. And now this year I am expected to pay an additional $800 to IPTAY. There is only so much of my budget I can spend on Clemson Football. It is getting to the breaking point. Apparently the University thinks there is an endless supply of money in IPTAY donors budgets.

I'll be at the game in Orlando because I love my Tigers.
But, just like most Tiger fans, it is a much longer drive for me.
And I think moving the game was a huge load of BS.

Accounting of the ACC Financial Loss

Dec 1, 2016, 11:23 AM

I too had purchased tickets to the Championship game at BOA, but was refunded my money when the game was moved to Orlando. And my family and I are not able to go to Orlando this weekend.

However, I do hope it is a sellout to those in Orange and White and we bring home a win.

As an IPTAY member, I feel that the conference needs to provide each university with an accounting of the total loss that WE ALL will share from the burden of the decision by the ACC and its member schools to relocate the conference championship game from Charlotte to Orlando within only nine weeks of the game being played.

And if they don't, the member schools should request this from Greensboro.

Boarding the flight out of Richmond. If this flight is an indication, the Hokies will be out in full force. Nice fans, though

Hate the location but love my Tigers more!

With the cheap tickets and low gas prices, i suggesred to my wife that we take a quick trip for the game. She said there was no way we were going to orlando and not doing the theme parks. That was just too much for me to make the trip.
