Father G®'s mention of Schilletter being a thief reminded me of Dr. Reel's Clemson History class, which was fantastic. Through that class, I found a section in the library focused on the history of the university. It included the book "Ole Clemson College, It was a Hell of a Place" which documented student stories up until WWII. It is an easy, and really interesting read. The cover gives you a good idea of the types of stories:
It is amazing to think of what the outcry would be today if 1/4 of the old hazing still went on.
Other honorable mentions if anyone is interested: Dr. Reel's books, "The High Seminary" and "Tradition." For history on the area as opposed to the school: "Used to be a Rough Place in Them Hills:Moonshine, The Dark Corner, And The New South."
It is fiction, rather than history, but Ron Rash's "One Foot in Eden" is a murder mystery novel set around the creation of Lake Jocassee. It is very good.
Greenr has that book, my Uncle had it when he was at Clemson

I believe. He graduated in the 70s, IIRC (I need to find that ring) but died before I was born.
I've read the book and I believe there may be references to one of my great-uncles in there. He graduated from Clemson in the 30's maybe (need to find that ring as well), got a great job, went insane, and died at the mental hospital on Bull Street.
