Interesting that one analyst differs from most college footbball experts and coaches. No matter what, it's a special time for Tiger Town. What a ride so far, and the best is yet to come; mind boggling when you remember the old days.

Clemson edge vs Alabama free ride...

Sep 27, 2017, 8:34 PM

I see I'm not the only one thinking Alabama's been sitting atop the 'polls' without earning that placement.

While the Tigers have had struggles with their offense, they have shown improvement while facing real competition. And the Defense has proven week to week it is the best by comparison to others.

Alabama on the other hand has only faced one 'ranked' team so far this season, and that was FSU which even with the loss of their QB was only a paper rank as proved by their loss last week. Through 3 weeks the Tide gave up 33pts most to unranked teams they should have had no problem keeping from scoring if their defense was as elite as perennially claimed and lauded in non-CFP polls.

And while their QB and offense stomped Vandy this past week, if you look at the tale of starting placement more often than not Alabama started past their own 30yd line. Compared to BC's kicking and sticking Clemson at the 10 or inside 6 times, the Vandy kicking team did themselves no service and gave Alabama free yardage very often.

The Tide offense prior to the Vandy game was lackluster and ranked outside the top 25 other teams in all but rushing, and even that was well under versus the competition they faced.

I understand the hype getting to those who vote for these placements, and the 'prestige' that has given Alabama constant brownie points. However the SEC west isn't looking particularly strong in comparison to the Big 12 early in the season. And with the upcoming games one has to question whether Alabama will end up facing a true top 20 team at all this season.

Yes we can hope Auburn wins it's schedule and stays up there and takes out Alabama, but LSU didn't do itself any help in last weeks game so they may be out of the top 20 by the time they face the Tide in November. And Miss St is likely not to hang with Auburn and thus at best be pushed out of the top 20 or even top 25 relatively quickly.

Flipping over, this week the Tigers face VT, and later NC State if it can move up into the top 25 over the next 3 weeks will definitely put Clemson's schedule well above the Tide for the season. Of course we have a plethora of other ACC teams with winning schedules at the moment making the old resume look good if we can put a W up against them all.

While I understand the preoccupation some have with the Tide, I think reality needs to seep in a bit more and evaluate them honestly instead of perennial carryover. Let them prove their mettle and earn that #1 ranking week in week out, instead of just giving it as a foregone conclusion.

Vanderbilt is no test , and when you think about how it looks in the SEC right now ...nobody but Alabama should be in the top 10 .
Georgia beat Notre Dame in a squeaker, but their no match for Bama. Neither are LSU or Florida . Auburn is decent defensively , but they better find a consistent way to move the football of Bama will beat them unmercifully .
Alabama will go undefeated most likely , destroy either UGa or UF in the CCG and head into the playoffs as the #1 seed .
Voters have no spine to say that Clemson could be better .
We may well be . Hoping the night comes where we can prove that we are , again .

I really hope that you are right Tigerdug, and IMO, I don't see it any different really. What I love the most, is who ever we go up against, I hope that the know it all's has them out classing us by a lot. It just makes me feel better, and leaves them looking even more stupid when we beat those giants that out classed us!!! The ones that we didn't have a chance of beating as they say!!!
