Clemson Coaches

Mar 25, 2021, 9:20 AM

I am not sure what each of you expect out of Clemson sports. I expect to win every time I tee it up with someone. I expect Clemson athletics to do the same. It’s hard to win em all, but winning is 90% mental and doing every little thing to make it happen. Getting better at the little things. Every team member doing his part. Getting better as the season goes on. Fine tuning everything. Getting better each minute. Trying to be the best every play. Excuses don’t win games and sometimes the wrong guy is the head coach. It does take time to get better, but at some point you may peak as the team leader. It’s time to step down.

I expect a win every time. I understand you can’t win them all. But I see no reason why you can’t win most. With the right leadership and attitudes winning is the results.

Attitude and leadership are important aspects in having a winning program. There also has to be a commitment from the school in terms of investment to make the goal of winning at a high level a reality.

For example, Dabo had a dream of what the football program could achieve. The AD, President and BOT got behind those dreams and funded the program at a level which gave Dabo a chance to reach those lofty goals. What we have seen at many schools is folks cycle through head coaches without changing any of the other variables with little result other than going in debt on buyouts.

In the case of Clemson basketball we have structural issues which has for the most part made us irrelevant for the past 100 years. The situation is similar to coot football where we change one variable without addressing the others and getting the same results. Yes there have been a few short bright spots which have resulted in the HC cashing in on a better job or being run out of town with the NC2A in chase.

Perhaps our budget constraints mean we have to choose between funding a great soccer or football programs which have high ceilings or investing in Basketball which has a much lower ceiling. Our leadership should be honest with our fan base so we can calibrate our expectations.

Duke has great facilities, so I don’t think that’s it
