One day, a Clemson fan and a Gamecock fan were both at a restaurant, wearing their respective team colors. The Clemson fan noticed that the Gamecock fan was staring at him, so he decided to strike up a conversation.
"Hey, you seem like a big Gamecock fan," the Clemson fan said.
"I sure am," replied the Gamecock fan.
"Well, let me tell you something funny that happened to me at a Clemson game," said the Clemson fan. "I was sitting in the stands, cheering on my team, when I suddenly heard this loud, obnoxious guy behind me shouting, 'Go Tigers! Go Tigers!'"
The Gamecock fan rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I've heard that kind of thing before," he said.
"Well, here's the funny part," continued the Clemson fan. "I turned around to give the guy a piece of my mind, but when I saw him, I realized he was actually wearing a South Carolina shirt underneath his Clemson jacket!"
The Gamecock fan laughed. "That's pretty good," he said. "But I've got a better one. You know how Clemson fans are always bragging about their football team?"
The Clemson fan nodded warily.
"Well, one time I saw a Clemson fan walking down the street with a big smile on his face," said the Gamecock fan. "So I went up to him and said, 'Why are you so happy? Did Clemson win a national championship?'"
The Clemson fan looked at the Gamecock fan expectantly.
"And you know what he said?" continued the Gamecock fan. "'No, but we beat South Carolina!'"
Both fans burst out laughing at the exchange, realizing that in the end, it's all about having a good time and enjoying the rivalry.

That's the punchline to a different joke but it makes this one infinitely more funny.
