Clemson Basketball 2 cents

My 2 cents on Clemson basketball

I grew up in Western North Carolina, college basketball is king. UNC, Duke, and to a lesser degree NC St and Wake were all the rage. When I came to Clemson, football surpassed basketball as my sports fandom of choice. Clemson, whether we like it or not is a second rate basketball school. Clemson is to basketball what UNC is to football. We care, we support, but it will always take the back burner. Oliver Purnell was the coach when I was a student. Making the tournament and being ranked were considered high points for a program without a great track record. Long story short, is Brownell a great coach...no. Is he a bad coach...no. He is what we are as a program...average at best. Clemson basketball will forever be mired in a culture problem, they are a basketball program trapped at a football school. Until we change the culture, the coach and the results will largely remain the same.

Lol this is quite a take in the middle of one of the craziest heaters this program has ever been on.

I tend to agree with you re: Brownell, and based on your handle and your post, you are roughly the same age I am. However, I think for now we just need to see where this team can go!

Amen! Im 100% behind this team. Just a quick take on the program from a big picture perspective. Im not sure people understand who we are as a program and what those expectations should be.

For the most part I agree except Carolina has a much better football history than we do in basketball, just no ACC Championships lately.

Thats a fair point. I just remember growing up if UNC did well in football people were happy but the overall attitude was more dismissive...more of a "well if they stink who cares, basketball is around the corner" kind of mentality. I think most casual Clemson fans feel the same way except the 2 sports are flipped.

I grew up in eastern, NC back in the 1980's. I had to listed to Woody Durham call UNC football games just to hear the score at Clemson.

That was back when every team seemed to play at 1pm.
