Big 10 going south?

May 15, 2023, 8:05 PM

USC and UCLA are going to be the 15th and 16th teams in the Big 10. It's looking like Oregon and Washington might be the 17th and 18th teams. Would they come south and grab 4 teams or more? If they decide not to come south that leaves Clemson at the mercy of the SEC. Would it make more sense for the SEC to go after the NC schools since they don't have any teams in that state? Maybe the VA schools as well.
I think it comes down to how big they want the conference to be.
The Big 10 could grab 4-6 ACC schools and divide the conference into regions.
Going to be fun to watch.

The big is a better choice for them and Clemson.

We bring the south to the big and Clemson would do well recruiting the south to the big - for the players who want big, but not the cold - or the distance for the family.
The sec would simply be diving the current geography even more.

LSU, UGA, Bama, Florida, Tenn, Auburn, Texas, Oklahoma. These drive excitement and state border war rivalries. Big has big teams but we don't have history or a passion in playing them like SEC teams. I would love to play UGA every year again. It used to be the best rivalry in CFB.

but enhances pretty much everything else.

Big 10 kills baseball, softball, Spring sports in general. And other sports too probably.
Big 10 is a horrific sports conference, way overrated. We don't play hockey, or have men's wrestling any more. That's the sports they excel in.

Basketball? Last Big 10 natty was 21 years ago, Mich State in 2002.

Football? Ask your Big 10 friends who has won more football National Championships in the last 50 - FIFTY!! - years.....the entire Big 10 conference.......or Clemson?

Look it up - it's 3 to 2.5.

Michigan State was 2000 but I get your point.

Penn State wasn't in the Big10 in the 80s.

Michigan and Nebraska split the title around 1997 or thereabouts

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Ohio St has 2, Mich has 1/2 (split poll back in that time)

and one of Ohio States was an after-the-final-gun bad/controversial call vs Miami.

Big 10 has lots of money, but they sure can't buy championships with it.

North Carolina and Virginia would go to the Big10 way before we would.

Are you serious? Why would the B1G want 4-6 ACC teams?

That makes no revenue sense at all.

My hope is a move to the SEC. Fingers crossed 🤞!

You're speculating. A lot. What makes even less sense is Clemson being left out, and all of the teams you just mentioned being included.

Relax, Clemson is and never has been in danger of being left out.

I agree with the post re: existing rivalries in the SEC like Bama, Auburn, UGA, LSU, Usuck, that go back ages. Keep in mind, these rivalries would be across all sports. Wouldn't it be nice to see basketball games yearly with Kentucky, UGA, Bama and even Vandy? And how about baseball. The SEC always has great baseball teams and those rivalries would be fun to watch now that Vandy has eliminated "The Whistler" from their supporters. Just ask yourself, SEC baseball vs. B1G baseball. You rather see Vandy, Bama or LSU come to Clemson every year or would you rather see Northwestern or Indiana? Not even close!

Clemson and F St are the two most sought after!

Outside of ND.
I hope we go to the SEC.
