Season outlook: Will special teams be a strength of the team in 2018?

Football season starts today. At least from a media perspective. As you read this the Clemson media heads up to The Reserve for Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney’s annual media golf outing. With that in mind, the last edition of our season outlook is here with a look at special teams.

fields the ball on punts and kick-offs holds on to the ball better than Ray-Ray. He was one step away from breaking a big one and one swat of the arm from fumbling the ball .

But no matter...I'll miss Ray-Ray this season .

Based on what I have seen, Potter will be the one walking out for anything super long distance day 1. He can crush it.

Christian Wilkins is our best special teams player

NFL teams are gonna love how he wants to be on the field for every single play, especially special teams. He'd probably be on for every offensive snap too if Dabo let him!

i'm not worried about any position really except punter. I'd say that's why people look at special teams as a weakness. Not being able to flip the field or gain advantage cost us big against Alabama.

It's been multiple areas every year... not just punter

Last year we struggled with punting and place kicking. A few years ago we couldn't cover kicks. We've been terrible at kickoff returns for years now which is kind of crazy considering the play makers we've had come through.

Pretty much every year we finish in the bottom 3rd nationally in special teams efficiency. Just being average or slightly above average would be a huge boost. We don't need it to be a strength, just not a glaring weakness.

It's about time for them to be.***
