Chris Matthews gone from MSNBC

Mar 3, 2020, 7:53 AM

He complimented women on their appearance and it was taken as abuse in the workplace.

I thought he did a good job. He wasnt PC either.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

From your own article...

Mar 3, 2020, 8:01 AM

"When I laughed nervously and said nothing, he followed up to the makeup artist. ‘Keep putting makeup on her, I’ll fall in love with her,’” Bassett wrote. “Another time, he stood between me and the mirror and complimented the red dress I was wearing for the segment. ‘You going out tonight?’ he asked.”

In no work place is this acceptable nor is it "complimenting women on their appearance." It's creepy old dude behavior.

Also, comparing Sanders' rise to Nazis invading France didn't exactly hit a mark.

Dude's old mental state caught up with him.

Re: From your own article...

He missed the mark on the Nazi comment, but only because people are so PC. In context it was nothing.

His comment to that woman was completely unprofessional though. I dont think he should have resigned over it though, unless he had a pattern of that behavior.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's only OK to compare a limited group of people to NAZI.

Mar 3, 2020, 8:21 AM

Those who identify with NAZIs. CM attacked the most sensitive people in America. Berniebros. Imo, that's what got him fired. He went after the network's biggest fans.

I think the problem with Hitler was the wars and the Holocaust. Its the 70 million deaths that were the prob.

I am not a Bernie supporter. I am a Bloomberg supporter. I am pointing out the problem with Hitler. It was war and death. The rest, who knows?

Bernie doesnt want the country like Stalin had. Moreover, still a bad comparison. Stalin killed millions. Try this comparison...

Re: interdasting

Mar 3, 2020, 6:53 PM [ in reply to interdasting ]

That is completely, uhm...wrong.

Hitler was a Nietzschean. This whole argument that he was socialist because he had the words "national socialism" in his party's name is completely wrong...the Reich was a super-far-right construction, maybe the worst that's ever existed on the planet. The whole "socialism" thing was essentially a - by policy - placebo for the masses, whom Hitler regarded as ignorant wretches in need of distraction and diversion. Basically Hitler - like all Nietzchians - thought the human race naturally divided into true Masters - exclusively Aryan, of course - and everyone else was natural slaves (Nietzche called them the "rabble"), intrinsically weak people whose concept of "morality" was nothing more than the reactivity of the weak, banding together to survive against the strong.

Hitler indeed knew the precepts of socialism. He didn't agree with any of them. He very much viewed it as bread and circuses for the slaves, a way to keep the dumb brutes in line.

Nietzche was a real piece of work. His philosophy defines most everything about the Nazis and why they were so bad. Basically he explains the will to power as a natural, desirable trait demonstrated by the strong, very much summarized by George Orwell's 1984 as "the exercise of true power is a fist in someone else's face."

Nietzche also went on to say that you couldn't blame a true Aryan for acting that way, any more than you could blame an eagle for being an eagle...a natural predator. (Not coincidentally, Nazis used the "Reichsadler", the Imperial Eagle, as their symbol.)

There's not much similar between him and Bernie Sanders. At all.

I AM IN NO WAY A VICTIM. AS A MATTER OF FACT THE LAST 3 YEARS HAVE BEEN THE BEST IN QUITE AWHILE. MAKING MORE MONEY. OUR COMPANY IS COVERED UP WITH WORK AND THE TAX CUT SURE WORKED FOR ME. AND I CAN ASSURE YOU I AM JUST PURE MIDDLE CLASS TRASH. UNLIKE 5 OR 6 YEARS AGO WHEN I DID NOT EVEN KNOW IF WE WOULD HAVE ENOUGH WORK TO HOLD ON TO MY JOB. GOOD LUCK TRUMP HATERS. IN 6 SHORT YEARS YOU WILL BE RID OF HIM.

You can't be too safe.

The only, only female in the universe about whose physical appearance I ever make a comment is my wife.

Is "You look stunning" safe or not? Asking for a frand.

Mar 3, 2020, 8:20 AM

How about gorgeous? Less triggering than "stunning". Beautiful perhaps? Really torn on stunning. What about "intelligent"? I mean that's a compliment. But often interpreted to mean ugly. So is that safe?

Screw it. Literally.

I make zero comments, positive or negative,

Mar 3, 2020, 8:23 AM

about the physical appearance of women to whom I am not married. It zeros the possibility that a woman will be offended by something I say about her appearance, and it's an honor to my wife that I pay no mind to what other women look like.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't believe that you pay "no mind"

Mar 3, 2020, 3:22 PM

You aren't blind and you are still a human being so you clearly see and have "thoughts" about how others look and/or dress (and that includes women).

I get that you don't vocalize or action out your thoughts but you can't deny them any more than when someone says "don't think about pink elephants" you immediately think about pink elephants.

Ignore all this if by "no mind" you simply meant "comment on other women's appearance."

There is a tactful way to compliment a woman.

Mar 3, 2020, 10:19 AM [ in reply to Is "You look stunning" safe or not? Asking for a frand. ]

The only thing appropriate to speak about at work, is directly related to work.

I have no idea how men are going to actually meet women in the future. I guess that's why hook up sites and dating apps are so popular.

I'll assume at some point they'll supply the required notarized legal documents that will be needed for copulation permission.

Maybe Stallone's "Judge Dredd" wasn't that far off when he has sex with Sandra Bullock.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Negative.

Mar 3, 2020, 7:34 PM [ in reply to Negative. ]

It is hard. And the biggest thing I always have to remind myself is that we are hardly fully evolved creatures, with anything even resembling a fully-evolved culture.

I mean, go back and watch old TV and films from the '40's and '50's, or stuff even older than that. Some of that stuff is just cringe-worthy. It's like: wow, man, that dude is creeping all over that poor chick like a fungus, and did he just blow his cigarette smoke right in her face? And could he condescend to her any more, 'cause I just do not see how?

Even the most un-evolved brute from the here and now has more couth than that. So we're learning.

I think you're right that compartmentalization is probably the only way forward, because I just do not see any way you can bring any kind of sex - or even acknowledgement of it - into the workplace and be stone 4x4 guaranteed nobody will take offense. And running my mouth is just not worth my job.

Which means, like it or not, times, mores, and expectations are going to continue to change...and we dudes had best change with them. And especially with VR getting to be an increasing thing (along with ever-increasing viral pandemics in the real world) I think you're probably right that Judge Dredd hookups that don't involve co-mingling those grotesque human bodily fluids are probably the wave of the future. ("When I was your age, son, I banged girls with my very own unit...and then walked five miles through the snow to school. Uphill both ways!")

Ah, progress.

This will cause me to watch MSNBC way less, especially in the evening.

However, this morning, Mike Barnicle on Morning Joe offered a strong defense of Matthews and hoped that Joe will have him on Morning Joe. I hope so. More likely though, is that Barniclewill be the next victim of the leftist machine

Mar 3, 2020, 12:43 PM

the broadcast networks don't cover the news and are glorified cooking / pet watching shows.

CNN... no.

FNC - I don't like how fox and friends cycle through female hosts. But, I also just don't like the commentary which is, in many ways, the opposite of Joe i.e., equally bad/biased. I used to like Joe when they had PJB regularly and others from the right and left. The polarization of the shows is reflective of our society unfortunately.
