Braking news on Ocare.

Jul 18, 2017, 9:12 AM

The senate is now looking into repealing Obamacare without a replacement. It's about time.

Cant do that. Toothpaste out of toob.

Jul 18, 2017, 9:20 AM

What they need to do is allow the ins co's to offer non-Ocare conforming policies again. That would put a semi fix on the cost to consumer problem. Would have to fix the cost to the taxpayer(gubmint) problem down the road somewhere.

Look, there's a reason the libbies have been getting slaughtered at the ballot box since they passed Osh*tcare....dont make the same mistake they did. Give the American worker back his insurance. Slaughter more libbies in process.

What they need to do is get rid of the artificial lines drawn around states that limit the insured pool, keeping premiums artificially high. And they need to do away with the Insurance companies exceptions to the Sherman Anti-Trust laws that allows them to collude and keep premiums artificially high.

The insurance companies made over $15 Billion last year on a system 'they say' they're losing money on.

They own the politicians...both Dems and Repubs.... Conservative vs liberal has nothing to do with the truth. That's just a distraction for the American people to fight about.

The senate is looking to repeal *parts* of Obamacare. Not all.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Serious question regarding ACA ... As critics, are you sure

Jul 18, 2017, 10:36 AM

that no one in your extended family has benefited from any of the provisions in the ACA? Are you equally sure, that in repealing it no members of your family will be adversely impacted in the future.

For example, children covered to 26, pre-Existing conditions, Medicaid expansion?

If so, you are blessed.

I am mostly blessed but there are some exceptions that make me think carefully about the ramifications.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I do like this method of determining how we are governed.

Jul 18, 2017, 10:41 AM

"You sure you don't want us to give you stuff? Your ma sure likes all the free stuff we're giving her. It'd be a shame if something happened to it,"

This is honestly the only reality that doesn't make me call Republicans 100% frauds. Try to repeal it 60 times when you KNOW you won't have the votes but now you won't repeal it. The only reason that's not complete fraud is because the time to repeal any "entitlement" is immediately. Once ANYONE is getting ANY benefit, the opposition says you're a heartless fiend for trying to take it away.

This method of determining how we're governed requires

Jul 18, 2017, 11:11 AM

compassion. People are less likely to be apathetic about people losing health insurance when it's people they know. Of course I'm sure there's some cold-hearted bastages who wouldn't even care if that happened.

It's particularly galling when health insurance is called "free stuff", like it's free cable TV or a free lunch. It's an effort to help people afford doctor's visits and medicine.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Nonsense. Compassionate people would find ways to care

Jul 18, 2017, 11:34 AM

for the less fortunate without requiring things by law with the force of the federal government behind it. This way is the antithesis of compassionate.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That sounds good, but what does it mean?

Jul 18, 2017, 11:41 AM

First of all, I wouldn't say it's the antithesis of compassion. You could maybe argue it's misguided compassion.

Secondly, in what realistic ways could we reshape the healthcare industry and health insurance without involving the government?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As to your second question, I have no idea.

Jul 18, 2017, 11:51 AM

I believe the federal government should be as uninvolved in our lives as possible. Perhaps that means that they are COMPLETELY out of the healthcare business. But I can't get into the "well if you can't articulate EXACTLY how that would work and show me how it would have NO issues, I can't get on board." I'm no expert. I just believe that the free market will do better, left to its own devices.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Would it be ok for state governments to get involved?

Jul 18, 2017, 12:07 PM

I don't see how the free market would sort out the healthcare industry or health insurance. Does anyone have a practical hypothesis for how that system would operate?

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I really don't know what to say to

However he's a west coast beatnik who has lived off the system his entire life because he chose to walk away from a six figure career and pursue (unsuccessfully) music.

His problems and need for govt help are of his own making, so repeal it, doesn't bother me. In fact, as I recall, he had no issues getting free treatment before Obamacare, so it really answered a need that didn't exist for him.

Re: Braking news on Ocare.

Jul 18, 2017, 10:58 AM

from a political strategy standpoint, this is a great way to hold the american people hostage. By reverting back to the old pre ACA days, voters would be far more tolerant of whatever piece of garbage the GOP comes up with being that the alternative is pre existing conditions and the like.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dunno about that.............

Jul 18, 2017, 9:59 PM

30 million people gained the possibility of getting mediocre coverage if they wanted it. 300 million people had their coverage worsen and increase in expense. I think the numbers would be in favor of pre-ACA by a long shot.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Dunno about that.............

Jul 18, 2017, 10:35 PM

things are definitely far worse for a single bread winner with a family of 4 making 50k and no coverage through an employer. It is also ridiculous to expect someone to pay 1/3rd of their salary for health insurance if they fit within that subsidy gap. While it is an unfair tax burden on some, we have 20 million more people insured through subsidies, and that is good for them and good for the insurance companies. I have a tough time agreeing that the old system is better across the board. Agree that the ACA is extremely flawed but it was a slight improvement. it really comes down to how we spread out the tax burden.

your brother may be a worse case example for those gaming the system, but my father got booted from his insurance under the old law and had to foot the bill for a second bypass surgeries pre ACA. He was very hard working, served two terms in Vietnam, and sacrificed every thing so my sister and I could get an education, but he had to sell his house to pay for the second surgery. that is not right either. Currently he lives off VA benefits and social security in a rental outside of Trenton. He is now broke despite the fact he did things the right way and saved for retirement. I am talking about a man awarded a silver star for bravery, nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and probably one of the best human beings out there.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The devil is in the deductibles..........

Jul 18, 2017, 11:07 PM

Yes, many more people may have insurance now, but I think most people are in my boat........my previous $800 family deductible went to almost $8000. That's insanity.....you can't do that to an entire country of people and expect them to go along happily. Also, for many of those now covered who weren't before, the insurance is useless, because they can't afford the deductibles when it comes right down to it.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpgringofhonor-obed.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: The devil is in the deductibles..........

Jul 18, 2017, 11:41 PM

I feel your pain then. I can only relate my one experience with the ACA when I lived in New Hampshire and my employer did not offer coverage. I enrolled through Minuteman Health and got a silver plan with NO deductible for just myself for at a hair under 300$ per month, 60% emergency room visit and 40% co pay for doctors outside of the network, 20 inside. I will give Mitt Romney a ton of credit when he was governor in Mass because he did a lot to bring down health care costs in the region. Health care costs in the SE are the most expensive in this country for a lot reasons, the only one worth mentioning is GOP's determination to block the Medicaid expansion. this is free federal government money that was denied for partisan purposes and ultimately raised operating costs for hospitals that offer treatment to the poor via emergency room visits. They have to make up their costs one way or another. I do know that for slightly better coverage, my current employer pays 6k per year for my current plan in NC. What you are experiencing likely has more to do with the cost of healthcare in your state. I do not think there are more people in your boat, it likely depends on where you live.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

check this.....

Jul 19, 2017, 9:24 AM

it's national, for the most part. High deductibles are the big problem no one's talking about. For low income folks getting coverage for the first time, it's disingenuous for a politician to boast about their newfound coverage when they can't afford the deductible for the first treatment they need. It's like giving them a car and charging $1000/gallon for gas.
