Bro-in-law picked up some cheap sipping bourbon that he swears by when he was here this past weekend. I got into it last night, and I gotta say, for the money, it might be my favorite bargain bourbon. On the sweeter side, which was surprising for a cheap almost-100 proofer....lots of caramel, vanilla, and brown sugar coming thru.

(I know...Rebel Bourbon but I refuse to bend on what I've called it my entire life) is gone. No matter what I keep on the bar, there's ALWAYS a bottom shelf bottle that is a worthy sipper neat but is primarily used for mixing with a cola or ginger ale. Or Monster Energy Drink...whatever. Once you add something other than ice or a splash of water to bourbon, it hardly matters what you use because at that point it's NOT about tasting the bourbon. That's traditionally been Rebel Yell for me.

Buffalo Trace was that way. I'd occasionally find a bottle in the "Special" section where they marked up the bourbons alot.

Elsewhere that was a lot more (if even available) here was Weller Special Reserve at a package store on the outskirts of Atlanta for $25.

If you can find a bottle of Eagle Rare it's marked up to $100. Been drinking Breckenridge a lot but now it's hard to find. Anything good in that $30 to 50 range either disappears or leaves that price range. Then disappears.

Last time I got Eagle Rare I was in NC near Oak Island and grabbed a bottle for like $40.

I use to get black out drunk 6 nights a week. Realized that wasn't sustainable in body or marriage.
Now I usually go hard on Thursday and Friday nights. Then real light on Saturday/Sunday.
