Changes to ACC to make it stronger

Jun 15, 2012, 12:09 PM

The ACC needs to make a statement that it understands that it must change itself and improve its football perception.

Change 1: Fire/Retire Swofford and replace with non-ACC alumni will signal that it is a new day in the ACC.

Change 2: SEC and Big12 are set to get 30M/year in revenue. ACC will give its schools $17M equally. After 10 years, Clemson/FSU will have $130M less than USC/UF to spend on athletics. That is a big gap. If 80% of the TV contract is tied to football and 20% is for basketball, prorate the 80% to the schools that actually invest in football (FSU, Clemson, VT, GT, Miami, NCSU,e tc..) This would help Clemson/FSU get closer to the $30/year mark.

It is crazy that Duke, WF, BC, Syracuse will get the SAME money as FSU/Clemson. Base the proration on 5 years of home average attendance, bowls, etc..) and open it for adjustment every 5 years. You invest, you get more TV money.

The 20% for basketball will be done the same way with UNC, Duke, Syracuse, etc.. getting more of the 20%.

Clem/FSU already asked for

50% of their bowl revenue... ACC said no. ACC will not go to unequal sharing. Not gonna happen.

The $17 million figure is on down the road. It starts at 13 million and goes up 500K per season.

There is not much the ACC can do. CU and FSU will never sign a GOR in ACC.

The $$ is a bigger issue than many are willing to

acknowledge...especially if we stay in the ACC. The immediate effects will not be felt, but it will be like the boiling frog...we will look around and wonder what happened.

We have already done that by falling behind in facilites...and look how long it has taken us to respond to the problem.

Change 2 would kill any conference (and did kill the Big 12)

Jun 15, 2012, 12:15 PM

there would be no reason to invest if you are already behind. We would never be able to catch up with Duke and UNC if our basketball program didn't have equal revenue opportunities. Why should we even try? Why should Duke even try to compete against FSU on the field?

The fundamental rule of a confernece should be that all those competing for the same confernece championships should have equal opportunity to do so.

Change 1...Check.
Change 2...negative
Change 3...everybody get better!

2 big ones would be to simply get rid of Swoffy and to allow teams to keep 50% of bowl revenue.

Here is my take about the bowl revenue situation.
If a team doesn't go to a bowl.. THEY GET NO SHARE in the payout.

"You can't spell PENIS without ESPN!!!"

are you willing to let UNC and Duke keep NCAA bball rev?

Jun 15, 2012, 12:43 PM

That is what made the ACC the highest payout for many years.

I think all members should get a share

Jun 15, 2012, 1:08 PM [ in reply to Re: Changes to ACC to make it stronger ]

but the ones who participate should get a BIGGER share. It is a group effort, to be fair, and the last place team still "competes".

Like a sports team.....everybody on the roster should get paid, but the starters get a bigger paycheck.

#3...Make Duke commit to football or stop fielding a team and sharing in the football revenues. Dear Blue Devils---please give Temple's AD a call regarding this topic.
