CDC Covid fatality update

UNDER 5 years of age
Sadly, 33 total US children in 0-4 year age range died with COVID as a contributing factor. Even more tragically over 26,000 parents mourned the loss of their children to other factors to include over 350 homicides, a factor of 10.
UNDER 24 years of age
Through Sept. 9th, the CDC has an approximate total of 350 deaths nationwide for people 24 years old and under where COVID was a contributing factor. Over the same time span, 35000 people 24 and under died of things other than COVID. Interestingly, in 2018 for the same age group, there were over 5000 homicides. Getting murdered is waaaaay more deadly than COVID.
UNDER 55 years of age
COVID contributed to the death of approximately 14,000 people so far this year under the age of 55. Meanwhile 250,000 other people in this age ranged died from a lot of other things, to include a ton of really bad life choices such as way to many french fries, lots of cigarettes, liquor, fighting with their drug dealer etc etc.

Without one, when we all get it and it becomes less severe. There's a chance in 10 years or so this will be just like the flu.

Covid is now the third leading cause of all deaths in the United States for 2020. It has killed in 6 months, 1/3 as many people as AIDS has killed since it was discovered over 30 years ago. And all this while shuttering the economy for over a month nationwide to an extent never done before in history, and then subsequently with precautions that are still impacting the economy.
Our best hope is millions, tens of millions of people, hopefully 100 million people have had it and not reported it. But all indications are we're not even 25% of the way through this. Hopefully a few hardest hit urban areas in the US are at or past 25%, but we really don't know because no one is doing the scientific testing we're so good at doing with the flu and other viruses to model that. And those who are modeling....well, that's ugly.
Glad I'm middle aged. I'd hate to be an old person or a kid in college or high school right about now.

When I'm 65, it will be people over 75. Etc. When I was 12, it was people over 20. When I was 6 it was 12 year olds.

unemployed, it would seem to be a big deal. With the return to school and the coming cold months pushing people indoors, it's going to get worse again, according to logic and Dr. Fauci. We're probably looking at a quarter of a million dead by January 1st.
I see the efforts to minimize the Covid deaths as just one of several morbidities, but, personally, I don't want to lose 5, 10, 15, 20 years or any of the remaining years I have in my life to Covid. I would think most people feel that way.
