OK Lunge, I need some fashion advice

I know some of you lean metro.... and KMS doesn't have the time to stay on top of men's fashion.
Need to buy husband of some casual shoes (meaning not dress shoes) for an upcoming vacay and I don't have all a lot of time to shop.
Need something comfortable, not too dressy but that can be worn with pants to dinner too.
He refuses to wear anything that looks like a Hey Dude (thank God).
Bonus points if it could be worn with shorts. If I don't intervene we are going to end up with driving mocs and I know there's got to be something better out there I don't know about.

tennis shoes are OK. Colors are what drives the appropriateness. I have some 420s that I got for REAL cheap that are great with khakis or shorts.

Or Sanuk makes (ok...used to make, at least...I haven't checked) casual shoes that are comfy, suitable for most non-dressy occasions, and probably 1/2 the price of olukai
disclaimer, I've got 4 pairs of olukais to just 2 sanuks, but the sanuks are my go-to for summer

You can wear them with slacks, casual khakis, anything short of a suit. And/or casual in shorts without socks. I literally wear them to meet with attorneys and work in them every day. After a couple of years when those get old looking, they become my casual shoe and I buy a new pair that's nice and clean for work. When the casual set gets really worn, they become yardwork shoes.

And although I have 2 pairs of Hey Dudes, I call them Hey Don'ts. Comfortable as hayell, worst quality I've ever seen.
Their "planned obsolesce" window is 6-9 months, with lousy customer service and a horrible return/warranty policy.

Jesus Christ this thread is giving me angina with all of the hideous kicks and boomer shoes.
Loafers are a classic for a reason. Perfect for summer, go with shorts or chinos, dress up or down, and super comfortable. Go with a pair of suede drivers. If your budget is under $300 go with Oliver Cabell, if budget isn’t a major concern I’d go with Tods. I have a pair of the suede tie drivers from OC and they’re delicious.
Now if he needs to walk any distances in these shoes, disregard entirely. Get a breathable sneaker, like some Ons or Allbirds as above. Trying to find a walking shoe that also looks good with your shirt tucked in is a losing proposition.

I also agree, I can't stomach the Sperry's because they are what my 80 year old dad has worn for 50 years and while a solid clemson tiger, he's no fashion plate.

My insta has been serving me ads from a DTC company called Amberjack that makes a loafer in the shape of a Venetian, but with a little bit more sole than a driving loafer, something like that seems to be the one possible bridge between distance walking and able to dress up

I might… might… wear something like this, but it’s leaning real hard into boomer sketchers territory. I think if you’re going to Europe and only can take one pair of shoes, this might do it. Otherwise, day shoes for walking and night shoes for wearing to dinner seems to be the best solution.

Like I said, these are about a half click away from being Merrell grandpa shoes. Bottom line there just isn’t a shoe to walk miles in that you can also dress up, it just doesn’t exist outside of the couple options presented here thus far, topsiders and loafers.

casual summer shoe of all time, a pair of low top Chuck Taylors. Timeless. Ageless. Old man or little kid. Male or female. Any color you want (but get "Natural"). Look good in shorts, jeans, even a suit. Socks or no socks. Get 'em dirty - just throw them in the washer, they are indestructible. Been around for 100 years and still look great in all environments. And still will 20 years from now.
If a place won't let you on wearing these, you don't need to go in there.
