Either transfer portal or diamonds in the rough after early signing period

Dec 6, 2021, 4:43 PM

The timing is tough. Early signing day is in two weeks. The February signing period just got interesting again

to take the place of the "Sabbs" of the world..........ESPECIALLY when our numbers are as low as they are........typically you resort to "diamond in the rough" recruits to fill a surprise spot or two. The one-way utilization of the transfer portal has decimated our numbers. Combine that with Dabo being ultra selective/stingy with offer amounts and you get into scramble mode trying to make the numbers work.

I DESPISE the portal and what it's done to CFB, BUT DABO HAS TO USE IT..........probably more than typical this year.

we've had close to 20 guys use the portal. How can our numbers be low??

the last 3 years we've lost:
2018/19: 7
2019/20: 4
2020/21: 8
2021/22: 8

we're losing about 25-30% of each recruiting class on average. Dabo (TO DATE) has not BACKFILLED by using the portal, therefore he gives a heart schollie to a walk-on OR tries to make it up in the next recruiting class which then presents an "always gonna be young" issue.

Dabo doesn't oversign nor does he put out a lot of offers. His positive mentality leads himself to believe that EVERYBODY that signs will be there for 3-4 years b/c they're "ALL-IN"...........that's not the case anymore.

DAvid Hood did a deep dive in the scholly numbers a week or two ago that laid out the "short falls" numbers wise.................feel free to read that b/c he makes it pretty clear (much more than my general statements)
