Welp....its what the looney toons in this country asked for. Then they go silent and pretend its not happening when the $hit hits the fan.

Yeah he was clueless. The problems in Iraq and Afghanistan were always a given once we decided to nation build in those places. I knew it years ago as did most people. The good news is that we no longer have to give the Afghan government money. The bad thing is that we just gave the Taliban jets and other military hardware. Something like 88 billion worth that was abandoned.

The US leaving was always going to be a problem for the Afghan government, no matter who was President. What is unconscionable is leaving behind the civilians you supposedly want to get out of the country. Step One: Remove civilians. Step Two: Remove the military. It shouldn't be difficult.

As ugly as this retreat is, it is long overdue. Afghanistan had many chances, took American lives, stole American money, and nothing -- nothing -- was ever going to change. We will not learn from this because we never do, but we can't get out of that place fast enough, just 20 years late. Good for Biden.

Issue is not getting out but the fact we got out without a plan and still have people there and evacuations have been stopped.

Hey, your personal lord and savior negotiated our exit with the Taliban back in May of 2020, so don't whine about it now.And if the Afghan army can't stand up for longer than a week, after 20 years and billions of dollars, then there isn't anything worth saving over there anyway.

If Obama would have negotiated it the withdrawal, and Trump saw it through, then some would be praising DT.

Of course, there are a some that would be damning him too for the same reasons.

The issue is not withdrawing our troops from Afghanistan as

Aug 16, 2021, 10:24 AM [ in reply to Re: Can't believe we left some of our own in Kabul who are now ]

much as it is the way it was done. I agree that we should have left that craphole years ago, but we should have performed the withdrawal in a more organized manner without leaving behind Americans and American allies to fend for themselves.

As for the lord and savior comment, that is unnecessary and reeks of arrogance. Just because we think the current administration did a terrible job with this pullout doesn't mean we think that Trump is some sort of Jesus-like figure. This is a combo of ad hominem and classic whataboutism and not an actual logical argument. There is simply no way to say that if Trump was still president, that he would have bungled the withdrawal this poorly.

Is it too much to ask for Biden to come out of his basement and actually lead this country? This situation has extremely little to do with his predecessor, unfortunately.

Would that be your thoughts if your civilian family had been captured by criminals, I bet not. There is going to be be millions of innocent civilians suffering or killed bc of how our country used their country and left them holding the bag of chit that they chit in!!!!

To be honest, we should have kept a large force in Afghanistan with American military bases in Afghanistan for when our country is assaulted by someone in that region again, and to kept terrorist from having an entire country to plan their terror against us, and our allies!!!!

As soon as they attack our country again, and they will, the same people approving what's happening now, will be the first to say that we should have stayed in Afghanistan, and kept those terrorist hiding in the mountains!!!

Truth is, when we win, we stay.

Aug 16, 2021, 10:48 AM

Still have bases in Japan, Germany and the Philippines from WWII. We still have Mediterranean bases from the 1st Gulf War. We still have bases in South Korea.

But we no longer have bases in Iraq(after building the world's largest) and now we are no longer in Afghanistan. In 10-15 years there will be another 9-11 attack because of the vacuum that returned to that country.

Not maintaining a presence in Afghanistan is the one position where I differ strongly from Trump. That said, I do believe the Trump administration(Pompeo) had a better withdrawal plan than Biden. Biden is out of his depth when it comes to foreign policy.

This is the right take.

Any withdraw plan is the wrong one a Liz has the right of it. Both, the current and former president are to blame here. Trump poisoned the US attitude, signed the peace treaty, and Biden flubbed it out.

I agree, we spent too much money on this thing,. we should have never left, as now as I look at it, bombs are cheap.

Add Cuba to that list too - since at the time it was a war with spain.

Would that be your thought if one or more of your family members was the one stuck there defending this XXXX hole? I have three members in my family and myself that are tired of defending a country that won't defend itself. This went on too long. We should have destroyed them and then pulled out. Let them pick up the pieces like we did at the WTC.

Where are these innocent civilians you talk about? They are Afghanis. The same people who supported and helped to protect the people who destroyed the WTC. We were never there to protect the people. We were there to punish the government for supporting Al Queda. Why does everyone forget that the reason we invaded the country to begin with is that fact???? It is not our job to protect anyone in that country. We were there for 20 years to try to teach them how to protect themselves. The Taliban took the country in a week and the city of Kabul without hardly firing a shot. We owe them nothing.

Where was the Trump admin in 2020 helping get these people out? Why is it always a last minute thing? Why wasn't there planning and yelling about visa applications last year? Not like people did foresee we needed to get people out. But nothing.

Trump is the one with signed a treaty with the Taliban getting us out. He is the one responsible for the date and the procedures leading up.

I will whole heartedly say Biden screwed the pooch with the final days as well....but give me a break. There is plenty of blame to go around.

I heard this morning that we spent $800 Billion on training the Afgan army the last 20 years and was crushed in less than a week.

I did not agree with Trump's decision to pull the troops out when he talked about it last year, but it is not hard to imagine him doing a much better job with actual troop withdrawal assuming he did not change his mind.

We are sending a terrible message to the rest of the world. North Korea and China are laughing at us right now and if they choose to do something to their neighbors I am not sure this administration would know how to react.

People holding onto the SIDE of airplanes as they takeoff from the airport. How desperate must you be to try that. How sad. As far as the ones on here bashing people that are no longer in charge, you have no clue and I actually feel bad for you. It is clear that those of you have never been in a situation where you make allies. YOU NEVER LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS/PEOPLE/ ALLIES BEHIND. How sad you can not put politics aside for a minute and have the decency to think what these people are going through. More then likely these people that were praying, pleading for a seat on these planes are dead now. Wow, just wow. I am certainly glad I do not allow anyone that poisonous in my life near me or my family.

These people are nothing to me or anyone else who served in that country. My wife served there and had to be told to never be alone in the same room with an Afghani male because she could very well be raped or have battery acid thrown in her face! And these were our allies! They are not and never were our allies or friends. We are just too fundamentally different. If they were our allies they would have defended their own country to stop this. They did not just like we all expected.

The U.S. Government did not need to show any more incompetency by pulling out the troops until they were ready to be gone. Take the people out of embassies, take the translators out, take whoever you want out of the country- than take out the military- it is not that hard to figure out, Well except for the idiots in Washington.
