Good for him. Some athletes will get paid and some won't. Some linemen will block for their QB if he pays them enough.

Can you clarify that last sentence?

I realize that you support NIL rights for college players in principle, but what do you mean by "Some linemen will block for their QB if he pays them enough."?

I can't be sure, but I believe he is stating that offensive linemen know that their QB is only worth his large sum of money if his jersey is clean at the end of the game and so they may negotiate for part of his money if he wants to remain "clean".

That's how I interpreted it too, but wanted him to be clear.

Because if that's where it is - just amazing. Amazing what people think is okay as a sport.

The linemen should form a union

They get short shrift in the NIL anyways, so they should extort it from the marquee players. It will be awesome to see them go on strike in the middle of a game.

Really dumb

Apr 1, 2022, 9:25 AM

Whoever stroked that check is an idiot.

Since NIL's don't allow contracts to stipulate a requirement to enroll for compensation $$$ they're literally rolling the dice on a teenager who may or may not enroll, develop, or ever start a game.

I have some swampland in SC I can sell him for 1/2 that price that's a better investment. :)

Sounds like they are only on the hook for a small portion and likely have language that specifies where he resides/does appearances. 8 million for exclusive rights is a lot better than 1 million for a TV commercial. Eventually someone will get burned in all this and my guess is it won't be the company with the money.

NIL will destroy college football.

I've wondered about this. Can they state that the player has to have a public persona in the area of the business providing the NIL?

If the kid is smart .. he'll retire when he finishes college***

Unfortunately it's only the beginning. Most 4 & 5 star players will be going to the highest bidder. The other major problem is players will be getting paid to transfer. A player at a school like WF or Vanderbilt has a great year the big money schools will pay them to come and play at their school. It's going to be very difficult for some schools to keep players. It's going to ruin College sports unless something is done to stop this madness.
