Can Yesterday's Loss Be a Positive?... I Kinda Think So

Nov 13, 2016, 11:08 AM

I don't post very much, but have been a T-netter for a very long time. Stretching all the way back to the Katie LBOD days.

Yesterday had several terrible moments combined with some god-awful officiating, and we've all discussed this ad nauseam. And yes, the loss also broke many of the streaks we had going. But if the ultimate goal is the National Championship, then yesterday could actually benefit us... (special thanks to Iowa and the Real USC!)

1) There are lots of teaching/learning opportunities to be seen on tape. Play calling, clock management, poor LB/DB technique, defensive assignments, DW decision making, etc. Whether we can learn and grow from them will ultimately decide our fate.

2) Assuming Hyatt and Pagano are OK (big if), we would enter the last 5 games of the season relatively healthy. Anchrum and Pollard have gotten meaningful minutes over the past couple weeks, along with some of the younger DTackles, which can only help down the stretch.

3) We've been playing with fire for several weeks, and finally got burned. That pressure is now behind us, but no longer any room for error moving forward.

4) I kinda hope we enter the playoffs at #4, as we would probably get Alabama in Atlanta in the semi-final game. I honestly feel that we would be better suited to beat them in the 1st game vs the Final. Atlanta is a much better place to play vs Arizona also. Should we win, then it looks like a Big Ten/Louisville opponent in Tampa... and again, Clemson Nation will be well represented.

Our 5 game mini season starts this week. Champions get back up when knocked down. Let's hope we respond well and win the whole #### thing!!!!

I say no.I don't believe in moral victories.
It comes down to two things:
1) lose again and your out.
2)Win out,but still there is no guarantee you make the playoffs.
As long as we won,we were in.
Now nobody knows.

I'm certainly not calling yesterday a moral victory. And had Michigan and Washington won, I'd be extremely pissed about "what could've been". But considering all the events of yesterday, and what still lies ahead of us, we can take the punch to the face and still win the fight, instead of being knocked out.

Clemson

I think so - all of our goals are still right in front......

of us. But losing will make us wake up and come down to earth and realize that wins don't just come.

Last year, we were hungry to prove ourselves - much better attitude and effort. This year, we've been living on press clippings and ratings too much.

We now need to show everybody left that we play that we do belong in the top teams.

Sure, we ended some long records and trends but they don't really matter. What matters in the end are the titles we win (State, ACC, and National).

Good thoughts. Post more often!***

I don't see anything positive about it.

It's really as simple as this... in golf, a bad shot hit over a lake can either end up in the water, or get a lucky bounce and end up on the green. We're fortunate enough to be grabbing our putter and not the ball retriever!!!

Nice post. This loss will force the team/coaches to "self-scout" as they like to say.

Sometimes the road to the truth is so elusive it's confusing and reality becomes illusion.

I truly hope it is, but what concerns me is that we've made these same mistakes before and are still making them late in the season

It could be positive only if

Some of our "early seniors" decide to finish the job. Jordan Leggett reminds me what it means to sacrifice for your teammates. You guys all know Jordan hates school and has since he's gotten here. He decided to come back and finish the job after defeat, shocking all of us.

Maybe one of these guys will have the same "gall".
