Can someone who understands NET rankings explain why

Utah State is ranked so much higher than Clemson when they also have two Quad 4 losses but zero Quad 1 wins?

25th ranked SOS versus 118th. Quad 4 games hurt just playing them.

No idea, but I don't care as long as we keep winning.

The biggest difference there is the quantity of Quad 4 games Clemson has played (9) compared to Utah State (5). Utah State also has five more Quad 3 wins than Clemson. So it boils down to strength of schedule there.

Another thing many don’t know is that margin of victory (up to 10 points) matters for NET as well. In other words, a 10 point win is weighed heavier than a 6 point win. Or even a 9 point win. I haven’t compared there, but that could be playing a difference too.

Look at the strength of schedule rankings.***

Joke. They are rated higher than us because the crappy teams they have been played (quad 3 and 4 teams) have been slightly better than crappy teams we have played. We've played 2 more quad 1 and 2 teams, and were way more successful.

No reason they should be 20 spots higher than us.

I can only say that the people who does those rankings, they work hard into the night to do anything humanly possible to arrange unworthy teams to look better than they've ever been just to make sure they can keep that little annoying team that wears a Tiger paw on their helmets completely away from the top 10 rankings when it's possible bc they are hoping that we stumble just once, and that would keep us from getting to close of being a playoff team where that scares the absolute chit out them. They know that if we get there, that it will be much harder to keep us from winning it all, and it's easier to beat us with a pen or pencil late at night when nobody is looking, than it is on the field!!!!!

Cut and pasted but may be helpful:

According to WarrenNolan, Clemson has a No. 339-ranked non-conference strength of schedule -- and the Tigers went 8-3 against it. Two losses fell in that worst tier with the NCAA's NET tourney resume tool in Loyola-Chicago at a neutral site (76-58) and South Carolina on the road (60-58).

Since that Loyola-Chicago defeat in December, however, the Tigers have notched a pair of Quadrant 1 wins (68-65 at Virginia Tech and 75-74 at Pitt) and three more Q2 victories. Not facing the toughest conference slate to this point, Clemson also added a pair of Q4 wins (72-51 over GT and 83-70 over Louisville).

Overall, Clemson's schedule is rated 156th overall.

My head hurts trying to understand it and make sense of the net rankings. I have looked at Utah States juggernaut of a schedule, and it just makes my head spin. Clemson hopefully will make the tournament at whatever seed, and have to prove the computers wrong. I think they will!
