Can Greenville or the State of South Carolina handle a pro football team?

Dec 18, 2021, 10:50 AM

I hate the Panthers and I am not a fan of the Falcons.

Something I’ve always thought about for any pro sport. No city in the state is big enough. Football wouldn’t do well because of the falcons and panthers. Baseball would do even worse because of the Braves. Basketball would do ok, and I think hockey would do alright. I’m 18, before I die this state will have a pro sports team.

No. It's obvious that the two college teams are beginning to struggle for fans. Going to get even worse with the NIL.

I was fortunate to be at a TD Club many years ago when Mark Richardson shared the proposal that had given to the NFL for an expansion team in Charlotte. It was well put together. The bottom line was it would take Charlotte, Greenville, and Columbia combined to support a team. Greenville people and Columbia people would drive to Charlotte. Charlotte people would not drive to SC.

Stick Around

With NIL, pro sports is in every college town. Be careful what you wish for…
Do you seriously want to go to CU games on Sat and a pro game on Sunday?
Get a life!

I bet you were just so proud of your last little comment. Patting yourself on the back??

#1... I asked a simple question...
#2... Trust me .. I have a life so I don't need nor
want another!!!!!!
I live in GA so I know all about traffic

I hate it that our guys are overlooked by the Panthers and Falcons. Although Falcons have drafted a few. (Sporadically)

Office discussion because some Dawg fans feel the same sometimes.

Btw: Ihatecrybabies, maybe you need to take your own advice. It just may help that "being a A$$" problem that you seem to have.
If you don't like a post please by all means .....
SCROLL ON!!!!!!

IMO, NO. For one thing not enough distance between Atlanta and Charlotte and Greenville I don't think could handle a franchise financially. After all, this all isn't Los Angles or New York.
Another would be the need for another Network feed since CBS usually covers the AFC and FOX the NFC. Maybe NBC
would but don't know if they won't both day and night Sunday games.
Also you would need to add another franchise somewhere and since both Atlanta and Charlotte are NFC teams most likely the other franchise would have to be AFC, and then you have to determine which division they would play in, and also that would make one division in each league have 5 teams.
There is more than enough teams in this area. We don't need another.

Isn’t college pro now?

Clemson is pretty close to Greenville

Nope. It’s all about TV audience.

Dec 18, 2021, 11:25 AM

Our state wouldn’t support another team. As someone whose in the broadcast industry, I’ve seen multiple research projects on this subject. The numbers aren’t there. In fact, the Panthers already own the title as the NFL’s lowest rated tv market.

Right now...

I don't think Greenville has the logistics to handle a pro team(estimated pop. 62,000-65,000)..
Semi pro(Drive, former teams like Groove, Growwl, current team Swamp Rabbits) are probably as good is Greenville will get of having a "pro" team......

The city of Greenville refused to support a AA baseball team affiliated with the Braves

Dec 18, 2021, 12:03 PM

so they decided to give in to all of the demand the Braves had for a single A Red Sox team. So, no…. Greenville cannot support a NFL team

Zero chance of an NFL team in SC unless the Panthers move to SC. It takes a billionaire to own one now. There are maybe two of those in SC and doubt either would want the hassle. Plus, even a billionaire owner would want the city to pony up a part of the gazillion dollars it takes to build an NFL stadium. There isn’t enough tax base or population in SC to support one.

No. But to you point on the Panthers. They can’t

Dec 18, 2021, 12:14 PM

lose enough to suit me. The notion that no Clemson player could fill their needs in the last 20+ years is nonsense. Richardson had a burr up his behind about Clemson. Don’t know why. New Panthers leadership has carried on with this.

No, and why would we even want one? Years ago, when pro football was watchable, it was hard to stay awake more then a quarter.

Hope not. I quit watching the pros when they could not stand up for National Anthem. Unfortunately it seems college is headed to the best team the boosters can buy. The portal with players changing teams constantly is waning my interest in college sports. I predict TV ratings to start going down little by little.
