Ok all you D/A's, here's the answer about the QB position...

Sep 10, 2014, 10:36 AM

Do any of you remember KYLE PARKER???

I honestly think he would have been a great QB for us, but he got thrown right out there early against fierce competition and ended up with a career-altering injury that harmed him and the advancement of our football program for a substantial time.

We have a seasoned and capable QB in Cole Stoudt who has been battle tested and conditioned through his experience to withstand and avoid major injuries while still being a reliable and effective play caller.
His presence and leadership in our Offense allows Watson the opportunity to learn some of the nuances to play at this level against some teams that will deliberately target him in an effort to undermine our team and the program building our coaches have already done.

We are at the cusp of becoming a QB factory, which has never been the case at Clemson, where there will be a very insignificant drop-off if we lose our starter. Protecting DW while he gets "game-hardened" at this early part of his career and this crucial phase of development at the QB position is prudent and responsible of our coaching staff.

I FULLY SUPPORT OUR COACHES JUDGEMENT ON THIS!!!

Any of you armchair coaches that are so reckless that you're willing to jeopardize DW's health and career for some quick-fix glamour status instead of allowing a deliberate process to ensure long-term success should have your fan-meter re-checked.

CLEMSON ROCKS!!!!!!! TIGERS ROLL!!!!!!!!! :)

Kyle also has great hair.

Really dood..

How many District Attorneys do you think are on tigernet?

Nice catch! ;)

Ummm Kyle Parker injured his ribs in his 2nd season as the

Sep 10, 2014, 10:44 AM

starting QB...not his 1st. It was in the 3rd game of the 2010 season against Auburn where he got hit. He had already started the whole 2009 season.

Are you saying Parker got his injured in his second season because he played too much in his freshman year...because I honestly don't follow your logic.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's what I was thinking. KP in '09 > KP in '10

Sep 10, 2014, 10:51 AM

The injury was part of it but he also didn't develop as a qb, in terms of footwork and moving in the pocket, etc.

It followed a trend at Clemson before Chad, qb's would get worse the longer they started. Proctor, Harper, Parker all did.

Hmmm. All those names rhyme, coincidence?

You're spot on about development of QB nuances which is

Sep 10, 2014, 11:11 AM

exactly what my point is.

Deshaun can learn all of that from a seasoned, pedigreed QB that is already in our system and has learned from his father, a veteran NFL QB.

Those little details can be every bit as important as raw talent.

2024 orange level member flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yeah, but you brought up a guy who was not a raw talent

Not to mention he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies prior to his sophomore year. After he was injured, I think some of the "oomf" left since he knew he was going to go play pro baseball anyways.

I think the OP was talking about Willie Korn - just got the wrong QB.

I think Kyle is the QB that Tommy said looked good in those baseball pants.

I completely agree with you and cannot understand why everyone else doesn't get this. You have to look at the big picture and the future. I'm not a big fan of doubting our coaches and players. DW has a long career ahead of him. We are building something even more special at Clemson, attracting quality athletes/young men. Heck even some of the best lineman are starting to look at Clemson. GO TIGERS! I SUPPORT YOU KIDS AND YOUR COACHES.

Re: Ok all you D/A's, here's the answer about the QB position...

Sep 10, 2014, 3:40 PM

Sound, deductive reasoning? What he said was false...Parker was injured in his second season, not his first. The injury had nothing to do with inexperience and everything to do with a borderline cheapshot hit by an Auburn defensive lineman.

The asinine comments some of you make on here supporting stout

Sep 10, 2014, 12:42 PM

Are truly comical. To state that Watson needs to learn from the seasoned Cole Stoudt?? That is one of the more ridiculous comments I have read. Last time I checked Stoudt had the same number of starts coming into the season as Watson

Not talking about starts D/A, but experience in college level game competition against thugs whose intention is to hurt our QB...like those punks in Columbia and their SEC posse.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Kyle Parker wasn't that great.

Sep 10, 2014, 1:15 PM

I mean come on man, stop jumping on the bandwagon. Dabo is preaching that Stoudt is our best shot, yet every single statistic says Watson is head and shoulders better.

And no, we aren't even close to being "QB U", we MIGHT be WR U, but thats a barely still.

Stoudt is not seasoned and bettle tested, he has been a backup for his entire career, so he is going to play like one. Likewise he has to cope with following in Boyd's footsteps, Watson doesnt have that mental burden!

I, and many other Clemson fans, including most of the student body, do not support our coaches decision because the stats say that the best player is sitting on the bench while the spoils system plays the kid who thinks he's entitled to it simply because he is older.

Why pick the older guy based on his age when the younger guy is sharper and more qualified?? Its ridiculous!

Re: Kyle Parker wasn't that great.

Sep 10, 2014, 1:22 PM

Here's one for you....

When your 8 year old kid is tearing up the Soap Box Derby circuit, why not put him in a Top Fuel Dragster and see what he can do?

BECAUSE HE MIGHT GET KILLED!

Does it even matter to you what DW says himself?
Maybe he recognizes the wisdom of his coaches more than you do.

Have you been huffing paint today?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Except this isnt a kid racing soap box derbys

Sep 10, 2014, 4:48 PM [ in reply to Re: Kyle Parker wasn't that great. ]

This is a kid who spent FOUR years in the exact same system Morris uses, taking hits from real young men who weigh close to the same as the kids DW is playing against now. Some of his former teammates or players from teams he faced in high school were on the other side of the ball at the UGA game. I know DW has taken a full on hit from 2 linebackers at once because I've seen the video of it. This isn't a kid going from soap box racing to Formula One racing, its a kid going from Formula 3 racing to Formula 1. He is better than Stoudt, hands down. We are wasting a season by keeping Stoudt as the starter, plain and simple.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Too bad we brought Sammy Watkins along so fast.

Sep 10, 2014, 1:56 PM

He was only a true freshman but we played him a lot from the start. Sure, he was a great player, but he was "the future" and he could have gotten hurt! He could have gotten injured since his little, frail freshman body was not given a chance to develop. Heck, he could've been KILLED!!

We obviously should have redshirted Sammy, or at least limited his snaps to garbage time, to protect him and bring him along slowly.

Pegged out on the Sarcasm Meter!!!

Big difference between those positions where we were very deep with high caliber talent at WR and our continual "one hit away from huge drop off" situation at QB.

But I see what you did there....

Another silly he might get hurt thread. Its football man!

Sep 10, 2014, 6:21 PM

Clowny is big and bad and he gets hurt every week!! Good Lord!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Another view on losing the Jawja game!

Sep 10, 2014, 9:52 PM

Guys, I have done some coaching and normally I would agree with our head coach, but Deshaun Watson is not the normal freshman he is wise beyond his years! If Chad and Dabo would have let him play in the second half when we were obviously stalled on offense it may have at least gave us a spark, we may not have won, but could have took some momentum from them and not gotten hammered. Cole had his chances and led us to numerous 3 and outs, that fueled the Dawgs plain and simple.

Your he's young and might get hurt goes for any age player, seniors get hurt and we have some ex-coaches that had this same "play not to lose" mentality!

I am a Dabo and Chad fan but they both have been outcoached especially in our big losses and Jawja outcoached them again, just like Old Wrinkle Balls Coach has done for five years!

Play Deshaun he is ready, just look at his accuracy he can throw it and Cole misses on throws he should not as a so called 5th year senior!
