Unscripted Offense Capability! The Best!

Dec 9, 2022, 7:16 PM

With Cade as the starter I see Clemson's ability to get chunk yards go up immensely.

In fact, if someone who has time/ability/know how to go back and look at some of our best offense during Deshaun's, Trevor's and Tajh Boyd's tenure as QB - I would be willing to bet a much larger % than people realize was "unscripted"!
The reason true - PP-QB are becoming a thing of the past is; "the defense has gotten so much more sophisticated and quicker"!
When the play breaks down and doesn't work the way it was designed - having someone who can improvise is key.

Improvisation yards in football are back breakers; especially on 3rd down.
I'm feeling really positive about that capability for the offense!

Cade runs our offense well because he can make reads.

Specifically DE reads on the read option and RPO plays. Not everyone can do that and be an effective passer. Cade can.

He'll make big plays while scrambling as well because he keeps his eyes up and he is a running threat. But I don't think we'll have to rely on those, because he'll keep our offense on time.

What LSU did in 2019. Not just QB play but receivers adjusted as well. Schoolyard football? I can see 2 and 0 doing this all day.

I love the long bomb.

What I love more is methodically working down the field and exhausting opponents' defenses which allows next year's starters to work on their skill. Imo, a bunch of quick passes and a TD will put your defense back on the field about as fast as a turnover.

I'm not suggesting anyone should not take advantage of blown coverage and score immediately.

Just as we saw our staff use Cade's play suggestion,

I believe his experience will see him a part of playcalling.

Again, my Texas kin have related how he constantly signalled calls to the sideline, even making abrupt calls himself on field. Three state titles at Texas' highest football division speaks pretty darn loudly.

Cade's Play Selection! Interesting!

When you hear some of the best OC talents talk about "moving the ball" they often talk about doing the plays that the QB likes the most.
So, awesome to hear they would take suggestions from the young QB.

My big thing is: if the play Cade calls/suggests or the play is signaled in by Streeter - if the defense guessed right and was in the right defense or if somebody on offense lost their one-on-one - Cade isn't afraid to improvise.

We have all seen what happens when a QB is pretty much "locked into how it's supposed to work"! Waiting for it to happen the way it was drawn up sometimes gets you sacked or causes the play to just be a throw-away.

Now the OC does not have to be perfect in other words. A huge help; because the DC on the other side and the players on the other side have skill too.

You need the ability to create on the fly! We have that in Cade!
