C-PAC & Trump

Feb 27, 2022, 7:43 PM

So the highly unscientific straw poll of the 2500 or so attendees at C-PAC this weekend had Trump the resounding winner. This sucks for the GOP and the US. Please keep in mind that I voted for Trump both times - in 2020 and 2016. I didn't vote for him in any of the primaries, but I voted for him in the general elections and have often defended him. And that's one reason he would be disastrous as the GOP nominee. Trump will be the issue. Not Russia, immigration, taxes, the Constitution, the Supreme Court, etc. Trump will be his own issue. He always has been.

I think he generally did a very good job as president, in all the measurable categories. But I think he was awful in the immeasurables - public opinion and leadership, first and foremost. I've heard the example, in defense of him, of do you want a fireman who is capable but crude and crass coming to your rescue, or one who is nice, but incapable. The choice is obvious. But it's not a parallel argument. The presidency is far more than a firefighter or EMT or whatever. Leadership is far more than just legislative. Some of our greatest leaders - JFK for the Dems and Reagan for the GOP, were lousy at getting legislation passed. Their measurables were not always that good - economy, employment, etc. But they led the nation. They set the tone for the nation. They made people optimistic about the nation. Trump didn't do that.

Trump attacked and alienated. Trump divided. Trump invited media attacks and claimed victimhood so he could take advantage of it and further his own cause. If Trump wanted what's best for this nation, he would endorse deSantis or someone else. A potential re-election would certainly result in some good things, but it would result in many bad things.

We KNOW that the media will attack him and the right and further divide the nation and stoke fires of anger. We KNOW that the left will attack him, once again, from day one and further divide the nation. We KNOW that Trump will not look to unite or lead the nation, he'll look to do what's best for Trump. Yes, I think the economy would improve dramatically. But I also think that the divisions in the country, and in the GOP, would get deeper and more dug in. I think it would be the one thing that would give the DNC optimism for the 2024 election - the ONLY thing. At this point, it's the GOP's for the taking - as is the House and the Senate. But if Trump comes back in - you can kiss all that goodbye.

Even if you maintain that Biden won by cheating, Trump should've won the election hands-down to such a degree that cheating would have been practically impossible - if he'd only kept his big mouth shut and his fat fingers off of Twitter. All of his measurables should have seen him win and win BIG - not in the electoral college, necessarily, but in the popular vote. You can't cheat and win when you're behind by 30%, but you can when you're only behind by 3%, and that's where things were. NOBODY wanted Biden. But MANY people did NOT and DO NOT want Trump.

The only thing good that could come of Trump running again is good only for the Dems, and that's to hand them the presidency for 4 more years and give them the chance of retaining the House and/or Senate.

Trump did some good things. Trump did some great things. If he was running a business, he'd be legendary. But he's not. He's running a nation. And his shortcomings and mistakes were YUGE. He's like the quarterback that throws great passes but throws more critical interceptions. His QBR was great, but you just can't get past those key interceptions that cost you points. That's how I see his presidency, and how I would see it again.

Just my opinion. Throwing it out there for whatever. I guess the only hope is that if he continues to opt to run again that enough Republicans can judge him off of those key point-costing and game-changing interceptions than for the passing records he may have set that looked great on paper, but in the end, didn't add up to the W the team needed.

And where do people get their “public opinion”? Remember when Romney was misogynistic racist, trump was racist/unhinged, bush racist, other bush racist and so on?

Without MSM, Dems would never win, because their policies are ###.

Can anyone read these results

And tell me and Birmingham what percentage of the polled conservatives voted for their staunch conservative champion, Liz Cheney, in 2024? Surely it has to be 25+%. She’s so ultra-conservative!
