C-19 related 'things' I wonder about:

Mar 15, 2020, 4:56 PM

1. Why are the two oldest nations on the planet, Italy and Japan, experiencing such differences in how the virus is affecting lives in the respective countries?

2. Expert - how does that label get applied, when nothing of this nature has occurred in our lifetime?

3. Is the urge to be right so strong, there are really some who would wish apocalyptic results simply to say "I told you so"? Quite a few posts, here and elsewhere, sure lean that way.

4. Politicizing - is it a vaccine? If not, what's the purpose?

5. Media/understanding - a few things are reasonably known about the virus. A LOT, apparently isn't. Wouldn't there be greater value in focusing on the 'known' and acting on it, rather than chase 'metrics' that haven't remotely been borne out yet? Case in point: exponential explosion of cases has been given an inordinate amount of air time...but that hasn't been reality. Doesn't that fact suggest more about how the virus is transmitted, than the supposed 'exponential' does?

6. Panic - sheesh...'One Nation', huh? Start practicing that, how about it!

7. Who else is walking and putzing about more than ever? It's that, or go stir-crazy. Ooh...that's a movie worth watching! :)

Some great questions. Other anomalies I wonder about...

1. Why does France have such a high % of people < 60 in ICUs?

2. Why has India seemingly been spared thus far?

3. If the Mexican President wants to restrict infected Americans from coming into his country, shouldn’t he build a wall?

I'm really curious how India with 1.3 bil population. So I did a bit of reading. Essentially, they are the only country that hasn't joined in with China supply chain blah blah... I'm sure there's others on here that could explain it better but it was actually fascinating and informative.

4. Purpose of politicizing:

This coronavirus outbreak must unite everyone who wants to defeat Trump

The question I have been wanting to ask is why no one has heard anything from North Korea. I hate to think what quarantining in that country means.

It must be terrible to live life with such obsession.

The unknown is always frightening... and we have no vaccine... This is not like the flu...Even a flu vaccine that misses the mark still provides SOME protection...This is somewhat like the Aids Epidemic...Until we get a vaccine and until we change our lifestyle, we are in deep doo-doo...And we don't have a vaccine and we don't know what we have to change... But we don't live in Kansas anymore, Dorothy...

A vaccine is 12 months away, minimum. We DO have an antiviral, that, combined with interferons, shows promise. Buy stock in Gilead Sciences.

I think this is good practice for the zombie pandemic in a few years.

Does everyone realize we are safe if you are healthy? Healthy folks need to wash their hands so they don’t pass it to an older person like in Washington in a nursing home. This is a first stage illness that interacts with a second stage illness that is already present? Stay away from. The old folks for a month or so. We will be good.

1) I read an article saying that SARS impacted Japan and Taiwan significantly and they learned from that so the impact of Covid-19 has been abated in those countries. I don't know if that's true or not but it makes some sense to me.

2) The American Revolution, Civil War, and the New Testament did not happen in our lifetimes but we have experts on each of these. I think it is the same way with Covid-19. Education and a lifetime of studying viruses probably gives a person a lot more knowledge than the layman so they are an expert.

3) I think most of these are just loudmouths spouting off. Its kinda like the gamecocks spouting off about New Spring blah blah blah.

4 & 6) Dunno, I kinda feel like most folks are getting serious and not screwing around. Those that were spouting off on FB a couple weeks ago are now getting quiet with a few exceptions.

5) I think the potential of exponential spreading of a virus is why we are shutting things down. You also have to realize that the media makes money off viewers and clicks, etc.... its just part of the world we live in. I check the BBC when I want to see a different perspective.

7) I'm in year four of a house renovation. I foresee lots of progress in the next few weeks.

I knew a reasonable 'conversation' could occur in a thread...sans name-calling. Heck, even Tigerbalm1® wasn't his usual self! ;)

If anyone saw the press conference from the White House an hour or so ago, there were some impressive folks on that podium. My father-in-law was a surgeon...brother-in-law is, too. While everyone may have a political leaning, when it comes to medicine, there was no politics up there...they spoke from experience and conviction, as some in the profession have done here, too.

My father-in-law was in WWII, a Jewish surgeon who insisted on being in Europe. His CO wanted him stateside for his skill...my F-I-L pressed and led a MASH unit in Coen, France. His CO was concerned being Jewish would put him at risk...my father-in-law said not being there risked more. He was right.

Helluva generation...but we're capable of matching. Set the pettiness aside...C-19 looks a lot like different sort of enemy...but a 'war', nonetheless. ClemTig®, soywaker®, MiuraTiger® certainly know more about that than I do, though. I, for one, value their input, immensely.

Because there were (and still are) so many ignorant morons on the internet that were acting like this was some ploy by Democrats. They were also frustrated by a president that also downplayed it. But #### is getting team and many folks on here have lots of crow to eat to get through these lean times we have coming.
