Upkeep is probably getting expensive

Mar 7, 2013, 5:22 PM

I know they had an issue with the roof leaking several years back.

Also they supposedly want a stadium with a retractable roof http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Falcons_Stadium

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Also why the NFL is the #1 sport

Mar 7, 2013, 5:27 PM

They aren't going to sit around & let their stadiums become run down & obsolete......especially when the taxpayers can help fund it!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

As much money as that stadium brings in to ATL

Mar 8, 2013, 11:23 AM

the taxpayers can afford to chip in.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

the SEC doesn't win there all the time anymore

Nothing, the Falcons just want to build a more….

extravagant facility to bring in more money. Call it the Cowboys Stadium effect.

Ding Ding Ding....this is spot on.

Mar 7, 2013, 5:48 PM

Atlanta is bidding on several events to host in the future and this gives them a much better chance of securing those events, which in turn, will bring in tons of money to the city.

FWIW, Atlanta is being mentioned as a possible city to bid on the Olympics, again. No way in heck will we get it, but ATL is working hard on the events and tourism front right now.

It is terribly dated. As a resident of Atlanta, I was

against the stadium, but we are being told that most of the bill will be paid by non-Atlantans through a hotel, restaurant tax on visitors. Glad my parents and family members stay at my house when they come to town. I guess the rest of ya'll will be buying the new stadium.

That is the same thing the Miami owner has claimed

Nothing. Went to NFC title game, and the atmosphere was terrific. Granted, I was cheering for the 49ers so that helped.
This is NFL/Blank greed, nothing more.

Apparently not enough oxygen flowing in the building.....LSU defenders proved it late in the game on New Years Eve!!!

I thought the Georgia Dome was in great shape. I went to both Clemson games in it last season. I don't get it. Place looks great.

Mar 7, 2013, 10:27 PM

Atlanta didn't go in for a new stadium. Also, Atlanta would have never been granted another Super Bowl without an upgrade in stadium.

It does seem like yesterday we were all raving about how the Georgia Dome was state of the art, etc.

My uncle's company has a suite and I watched Kentucky 1993, Auburn 1997, 2007 and Tennessee 2003 from there. The suites were very nice.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It was the owners decision

Mar 7, 2013, 10:43 PM [ in reply to Re: It's 20 years old for God's sake!*** ]

Arthur Blank is second to the bottom currently in profits. The Ga Dome/ crooked city of Atl venders take most profits and leave Blank next to nothing. He will have his own building making all profits including concerts, Super Bowls, college bowls, tractor pulls and Final Fours, etc etc.

No brainer for him.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgmilitary_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Pretty sure the company that runs the Dome right now

Mar 8, 2013, 11:25 AM

is building the new stadium, not Blank

Re: bye bye GA dome

So dumb and wasteful.

A new Stadium is not needed in ATL.

If they ever want to attract more major events

Mar 8, 2013, 11:56 AM

like the Olympics, the World Cup, a professional soccer team, etc. then they need a new venue.
